Mike Magee looks ready to leave his hometown for the place where he enjoyed the most successful stint of his career.

Magee is set to make a return to the LA Galaxy, according to a report from ChicagoNow.com. The 31-year-old free agent forward was reportedly drawing interest from Sporting Kansas City, the Vancouver Whitecaps, and Chicago Fire, but has chosen to reunite with Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena in Los Angeles.

A two-time MLS Cup winner with the Galaxy in 2011 and 2012, Magee spent parts of five seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to the Fire in a deal that sent Robbie Rogers to the Galaxy back in 2013. Magee went on to win MLS MVP honors that season, but the rest of his stint in Chicago was far less enjoyable.

Hindered by injuries, Magee played a combined 29 times in 2014 and 2015, and finished last season with three starts, 12 appearances, and no goals.

If Magee does wind up with the Galaxy this offseason, he might not be the only former Fire player to do so. Veteran midfielder/defender Jeff Larentowicz is reportedly going to sign with the Galaxy as well.

What do you think of the Magee reportedly rejoining the Galaxy? See him making an impact for the club in 2016? Starting to wonder what the Chicago Fire have in mind for 2016?

  1. On the real though, Bruce has a got a bunch of OLD DUDES coming in BUT this looks like the Gals are loading up for GO FOR BROKE 1 year run in 2016. I heard JJ90 was a possibility with the Juninho departure. Who knows … The Starting XI could be the best in MLS history

  2. Another player move that makes no sense. At this rate the Galaxy may as well be a retirement home. So far this off season they have lost 2 key middle aged players in the defense & midfield and have replaced them with who???

  3. “Punt” seems to be the operational word this off season. Rumored transfers include Larentowicz, Ashley Cole, and now Magee. These transactions look more like an ad hoc solution than a long term plan. Maybe that’s not too bad with Villarreal, BJIV, Maganto, and several other young players waiting in the wings, but still, Bruce’s vision is less than crystal clear from a fan’s perspective.

On top of all that, LA sold Omar and Juninho. Not good.

  4. I don’t know–he’s only 31, so how will he relate to Keane, Gerrard, and Cole? Seems pretty young for the Galaxy nowadays.

  5. Are we trying to get washed up players now? Let go of one of our best players in the side, then bring him back years later after he’s lost form and father-time has taken his toll? I’m sorry, i’m no expert, the offseason moves seem pretty dumb at this point.

    • Bruce likes his reclamation projects.

I don’t think Magee has fallen that much though, get a little fitness in him he’ll be back in form.

If that’s not shinning a turd I don’t know what is. Their moves this off-season have been laughable.
