The New York Red Bulls have struggled mightily on defense this season, so Friday’s announcement couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Red Bulls acquired centerback Aurelien Collin from Orlando City SC in exchange for a conditional 2017 fourth-round draft pick.
Collin has made 137 appearances in MLS since joining the league back in 2011. The 30-year old defender played an important role in Sporting KC’s title run in 2013, starting alongside U.S. Men’s National Team centerback Matt Besler.
With numerous injuries to the Red Bulls backline this season, in addition to Damien Perrinelle, who remains sidelined after sustaining a knee injury in the 2015 MLS Playoffs, Collin provides Jesse Marsch’s side with some reassurance as the team looks to regain their health.

Huge pickup. Veteran CB with experience with a high line. Most importantly, he’s an actual CB, unlike some of the players RB has had to start there this season. This is going to make a big difference for them.
When the other CBs get healthy, you’re looking at Collin as probably the 3rd CB, which will make for a pretty strong CB corps.
happy that the front office made a move. does he still have it? did skc let him go bc of money? also, finally mgt realized that zubar and ouimette are not good. though i wonder if okugo wasn’t any good and that why we didn’t sign him…

We (KC) did let him go because they couldn’t come to terms on money. We ended up really missing him at CB. With regular playing time I think he would still be a good addition
We also let Okugo go because he was not a good player. He was also expensive. Glad we got out of that deal.
Can’t stand this dude but hopefully he’s still better than the guys RBNY have been running out there this season, i.e. Karl Ouimette.
