Copa America (Day 3): Your Running Commentary

A trio of low-scoring matches were played on Saturday, but the Copa America rolls on Sunday with a pair of Group C fixtures that should be quite entertaining.

Jamaica and Venezuela will get things going this afternoon from Solider Field (5 p.m., Fox/Univision/Univision Deportes) as both sides look to gain an early advantage in their difficult group. If either nation can manage three points it could prove to be massive before meeting projected group favoritesMexico and Uruguay in their final two matches.

The day’s second match, features Mexico as they take on a Uruguay side that will place without Barcelona star Luis Suarez (8 p.m., Fox Sports 1/Univision/Univision Deportes). El Tri will be brimming with confidence heading into their Group C opener after their 1-0 win over Chile on June 1, while Uruguay looks to build off of their successful start to CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.

If you will be watching today’s soccer, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. I’m enjoying Stu Holden’s commentary on Fox. He’s much more coherent than Twellman, and he and JP didn’t ramble on about everything but the game they’re covering the way Twellman and Darke inevitably do.

  2. Shocking referee for the Uruguay mexico. Destroyed the game, criminal stuff…this mistake of nature, main referee and linesman should be banned from ever nearing a football field.

  3. Guardado should not be playing at this point. His tackle was assassination attempt-hatchet job…this is as stone cold red card as one can see in football…

  4. I am disappointed, as I normally look forward to the playing of the national anthems and Uruguay has one of the best. It was completely unrecognizable to me, compounded by the the look at the players’ faces said, “What the …. Is this?”

  5. Reasonable to assume we’ll actually see some goals with this match.

Extremely dull and lifeless tournament to this point. It’s not even that teams appear to be cautious, but rather it almost appears teams simply don’t care.
