FC Dallas bounced back from a disappointing defeat against Sporting KC last weekend with a complete performance on Saturday night.

Oscar Pareja’s side picked up a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake, propelling Dallas to within one point of the Colorado Rapids atop the Western Conference.

Mauro Diaz played provider for the home team on Saturday, creating both opportunities that led to Dallas finding the back of the net.

First, Diaz started a quick break for Dallas in the 18th minute, playing a lofted ball over the top and catching RSL off balance. Michael Barrios latched onto the long through pass before sliding it across to Kellyn Acosta for the game’s first goal.

Dallas then doubled the lead in the second half when Diaz was at it again with a tremendous bicycle-kick pass that led to Fabian Castillo’s finish and his fourth goal of the season.

RSL finished the night without a shot on goal after Dallas’ attacking prowess prevented the road side from seeing much of the ball in dangerous spots.

The two teams will return to the field next week for U.S. Open Cup action, as RSL meets the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday and Dallas hosts the Colorado Rapids the following day.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Mauro DiazĀ didn’t get his name on the scoresheet but he was firmly involved in both goals and created several more quality chances on the night.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

FC Dallas took an early lead through Mauro Diaz’s quick eye for detail, catching the RSL backline out of sync, and the home team never looked back from there.

MATCH TO FORGET

RSL’s front three of Jordan Allen, Devon Sandoval and Olmes Garcia failed to register a shot on the evening, largely contributing to the team’s struggles in defeat.

  1. I understand giving your players some rest, but just throwing in the towel before the game begins with a complete B team rankles. Hilarious listening to the announcers trying to talk up Demar Phillips as an offensive substitution, rather than just making sure Luke didn’t get too much of a workout. Yikes. What a waste of a game between two top teams, and if I was a Dallas fan who paid to watch the exhibition against the Real Monarchs, I would be even more ticked than I am.
