The Colorado Rapids were in need of a bounce-back performance, and they got just that thanks to the efforts of Marlon Hairston.

Hairston provided the Rapids with a goal and an assist on Saturday, leading the way in a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The win comes just one week after a 5-1 destruction at the hands of NYCFC, one that ended the Rapids’ 15-game unbeaten run.

Just moments before halftime, Hairston fired the Rapids into the lead. After spraying a pass out to Marc Burch, Hairston darted into the center of the box towards goal. Burch’s low driven cross fell right to the feet of Hairston, who smashed a shot first time for a close-range finish.

Hairston then played a part in the Rapids’ second of the night, assisting Dominique Badji in the 60th minute.

Shkelzen Gashi proved the Rapids most efficient attacker throughout the opening half. The Albanian forward generated several chances throughout the opening half, including a seventh minute missile that went just wide.

In total, the Rapids outshot the opposition, 23-7, in what proved to be a dominant performance. For the Whitecaps, the lone positive was the play of Giles Barnes, who provided energy in his first appearance for the club.

The Rapids return to action next Saturday with a visit to the LA Galaxy, while the Whitecaps look to bounce back against the San Jose Earthquakes one day prior.
