For years, Diego Valeri has been vital for the Portland Timbers, but the Argentine’s run through March might just have been one of his best ever stretches.

Valeri scored four goals while providing two assists in the month of March, leading the Portland Timbers to the top of the Western Conference. The Timbers’ four-game run earned the club SBI MLS Team of the Month honors, while Valeri himself earned SBI Player of the Month recognition for his play.

The Argentinian playmaker started his season on a high with two goals and an assist versus an overmatched Minnesota United, guiding the Timbers to a lopsided 5-1 win. Valeri then notched the lone assist in his team’s next match, feeding Diego Chara for a simple tap-in in a 1-0 victory over the LA Galaxy. A two-goal performance against the Houston Dynamo soon followed, as Valeri contributed directly to six of the Timbers’ 10 goals across a three-game stretch.

Valeri’s efforts earned him SBI MLS Player of the Month honors over the likes of Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres, Josef Martinez and Tim Melia.

What did you think of Valeri’s efforts in March? Who impressed you the most throughout the month?
