Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Cameron, Durkin, and more

Geoff Cameron was one of two American players to pick up a win in EFL Championship play this weekend, helping QPR to a 2-0 victory over Preston North End in London.

The veteran midfielder started and played 90 minutes at Loftus Road Stadium, while continuing to provide experience on the pitch. Cameron won four of seven duels, while making eight recoveries, winning two aerial battles, and making one clearance. Cameron, 34, has made 14 appearances in league play this season, with Saturday’s win bumping QPR to 14th in the second division standings. Up next for Cameron and QPR is a trip to Birmingham City on Wednesday as the busy schedule continues.

Elsewhere, Weston McKennie played the full 90 minutes for Schalke but was unable to help his side to a win. Zack Steffen and Alfredo Morales played 90 minutes in a lopsided loss to Borussia Dortmund. Christian Pulisic was ineffective in a road loss to Everton, Tim Ream and Fulham lost to Bristol City at home, and Eric Lichaj and Hull City defeated Stoke City at home.

Erik Palmer-Brown and Austria Wien earned a 2-2 draw against rivals Rapid Wien. Chris Durkin earned his first start for Sint-Truiden, but could not help his team avoid a loss to Club Brugge. Niko Hamalainen continued to rack up first team minutes for Scottish side Kilmarnock.

  1. Geoff Cameron……the veteran midfielder…..AGAIN MIDFIELDER……starting and playing 90 minutes at Loftus Road Stadium, while continuing to provide EXPERIENCE on the pitch. A former EPL now EPL Championship player….

Yet even at the END of his amazing career, people like to argue that he is a CB and not an EPL caliber Midfielder that could have elevated the overall talent level of the USMNT……to justify certain “other players” being on the USMNT (some of who are out of Contract with NO MLS TEAMS REALLY RUSHING FOR THEIR SERVICES!!!!). lol, Interesting

    • ageing midfielder, cancer to the team in the past…..we’ve moved on from him, you should too, but if your narrative helps you sleep better than continue on brother!!!!

      Reply
      • Ronnie, the cancer on the team was the manager who benched Cameron (an EPL starting CB at the time) and decided to start OG Gonzolez in his place in Couva and we all know what happened next.

      • @Ronniet,
I’m with you brother and I appreciate you letting me come to terms with my painful woes but if you are talking about “ageing midfielder or a cancer to the team in the past” we still have some in camp that need to be routed out in order for this team to succeed. If it comes down to an aging EPL player or aging MLS player well I trust you can take it from there……

        @Joe Dirt
        +1
        my point exactly!!!!

    • It doesn’t really seem like Joe’s point and yours are the same at all. We all know your referencing Bradley, but Joe is saying he should have replaced Omar, not Bradley.
      —————————
I’m hoping we don’t see Bradley in the semis in June. Adams should be healed, Weah should be healed allowing Tyler and Wes in a double pivot with CP in front with Weah and Morris (or Ledezma, Pomykal, or Gio). I don’t see anyway Bradley makes it to qualifying next fall barring injuries to Yueill, Adams, Morales, McKennie.

      • Johnnyrazor, I was referencing the “cancer on the team in the past” comment. There were various issues that lead to the down fall of the team but Geoff Cameron was not one of them. Hence he was never a cancer on this team. Ronniet and I both referenced what we thought was cancerous on the team but at the end of the day we both agreed that it was not Cameron.

“I’m hoping we don’t see Bradley in the semis in June. “……Hahaha, just be ready for a major disappointment this June

  2. It will be interesting to see how Marsch does after Haland is sold and maybe a couple others. Seem to have plenty of fire power for the league but do they have enough for Europa League (assuming they won’t upset Liverpool this week).
