Norwich City’s stay in the English Premier League will come to an end on Saturday if the Canaries suffer defeat at Aston Villa, but the return of Josh Sargent could be exactly what Dean Smith’s side needs to avoid relegation.
Sargent is expected to make his return to action for Norwich City this weekend after missing over one month due to an ankle injury. The U.S. men’s national team striker last featured in a 2-1 road defeat at Leeds United before missing out on the final window of World Cup Qualifying.
“Josh Sargent is training today and if he gets through training then he will be in the squad, which will be good news,” Smith said Friday.
The 22-year-old has two league goals and one assist to his name in his debut EPL campaign and would be a welcomed sight in the attacking corps. Norwich City has lost back-to-back matches against Manchester United and Newcastle United respectively, putting the Canaries in a must-win situation at Villa Park on Saturday.
Elsewhere in England, Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United starts its three-game rogues’ gallery of high-caliber opponents on Saturday against Manchester City.
In the English Championship, Duane Holmes has been a part of his side’s five-game unbeaten run and will look to contribute when Huddersfield Town faces Coventry City.
In Germany, Tyler Adams and Joe Scally face off for their respective clubs on Monday with RB Leipzig needing a win to stay in the drivers seat for a UCL spot.
In Austria, Brenden Aaronson and Red Bull Salzburg will face Ried in the Austrian Cup Final, looking to capture a domestic double under Matthias Jaissle.
In Serie A play, Gianluca Busio and Venezia go on the road to face Juventus in a must-win match to escape relegation on Sunday. Busio has been a regular starter for his club, but more needs to be done to change Venezia’s fortunes and remain in the top flight.
In Spain, Yunus Musah and Valencia look to bounce back from last weekend’s cup final loss when they face Levante on Saturday. Meanwhile, Shaq Moore and Samuel Shashoua will aim to propel Tenerife to three points against Lugo.
In Ligue 1 action, Tim Weah and Lille visit Erik Palmer-Brown and Troyes on Sunday where both teams need a win. Lille has a chance to gain a Europa Conference League spot while Troyes sits only two points from the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic can clinch the Scottish Premiership title with a victory over Old Firm rivals Rangers. James Sands will hope to play a role for the visitors at Celtic Park.
