Mark McKenzie stepped into Genk’s starting lineup on Sunday for the first time since mid-February and excelled as the Belgian club picked up three points at home.
McKenzie logged 90 minutes as Genk rolled past Eupen 5-0 at home, with the U.S. men’s national team defender contributing to the shutout. McKenzie completed 90% of his passes and also made four interceptions, to go along with one successful tackle attempt. Sunday marked only McKenzie’s fourth league start of 2022, which also hampered his chances to be included for World Cup Qualifying in March. The 23-year-old has made 16 league appearances for Genk this season and will hope Sunday’s strong shift leads to added minutes down the stretch this spring.
In Germany, Gio Reyna appeared off of the bench for Borussia Dortmund, but was unable to help the club avoid a lopsided defeat to RB Leipzig. Timothy Tillman played 90 minutes for Greuther Furth in a scoreless draw while Ricardo Pepi started in a 3-0 win for Augsburg.
In England, Tim Ream logged his latest 90 minutes in a 2-0 London Derby win for Fulham over QPR. Ethan Horvath watched from the sidelines as Nottingham Forest thumped Blackpool 4-1.
In France, Erik Palmer-Brown helped Troyes earn a 1-0 win over Stade Reims, playing 53 minutes off of the bench. Timothy Weah was suspended for Lille following his ejection prior to the international break.
Elsewhere, Cameron Carter-Vickers played the hero for Celtic against Rangers in an Old Firm Derby win while Luca De La Torre played 90 minutes in a winning result for Dutch side Heracles. Haji Wright registered one goal and one assist for Turkish club Antalyaspor.
