Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Tillman, McKennie, and more

Rangers still have an uphill climb to get back into the Scottish Premiership title race, but Malik Tillman’s latest goalscoring performance helped the club remain nine points back of league-leaders Celtic.

Tillman scored his fifth league goal of the season as Rangers defeated Dundee United 2-0 at Tannadice Park. The U.S. men’s national team attacker helped Michael Beale’s squad double their lead in the 57th minute, just three minutes after Fashion Sakala broke the deadlock for the visitors. Tillman drilled a right-footed shot into the bottom-left corner, giving him six goals in total for the Scottish giants this season.

Rangers would hang on to pick up its 15th league victory of the season and keep the pressure on Celtic at the top of the league table. Tillman also completed 81% of his passes, won five duels, and made four recoveries from his attacking midfield position. Up next is a home date with Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup on Jan. 15.

In Italy, Weston McKennie played 90 minutes in Juventus’ victory over Udinese.

In England, Zack Steffen endured a tough day in Middlesbrough’s lopsided FA Cup loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. Ethan Horvath and Luton Town will face a replay against Wigan Athletic following a 1-1 draw.

In Spain, Yunus Musah went the distance for Valencia in a 1-0 defeat.

In Belgium, Mark McKenzie enjoyed another positive performance as league-leaders Genk defeated Club Brugge.

In the Netherlands, Djordje Mihailovic made his AZ Alkmaar debut in a 1-1 draw with Vitesse Arnhem.

  1. The formation is a 4-2-3-1 for the USA,
You can only choose 2 out of 4 players- BA, Reyna, Mihailovic, Tillman, who starts at the 10? Who’s the backup? And where do you play the other 2?

    • Right now In a 4-2-3-1 I’d start Reyna @ the 10 in games we’re expected to have possession with Aaronson as the Back-up. In games where we concede possession I’d start Aaronson and have Reyna late if we’re chasing a goal.
Tillman’s been used as a wide attacker….so I’d make him a back-up to Weah at the wide right spot.
Mihailovic would be a floater (depth) to cover either wide spots or 3rd central spot. At least until he proves himself a little more.
Adams & Musah start the 2 deep CM spots with McKennie rotating with Musah.
Adams doesn’t really have an equivalent back-up (yet).
