Alan Sonora’s time with Independiente might be over, but the American midfielder is reportedly on the radar of another Argentinian top-flight club.

San Lorenzo is monitoring Sonora for a permanent move to the club, TyC Sports reported Monday. San Lorenzo is continuing preseason camp in Uruguay with the new Primera Division schedule set to begin on Jan. 28.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a stellar season with Independiente, scoring six goals and adding two assists in 42 combined appearances for the club. However, his contract with Independiente expired in December, forcing Sonora to seek a new club this winter.

Sonora spent his entire professional career with Independiente, scoring 11 goals and adding seven assists in 87 appearances. The attacking midfielder was also linked with a possible move to MLS following the expiration of his contract.

Sonora’s name has been linked with the U.S. men’s national team over the past year, but the New Jersey-born player has yet to earn a senior international call-up.

San Lorenzo finished sixth in the Primera Division last season with 43 points earned through 27 matches played.
