Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Steffen, Horvath, and more

Zack Steffen had little to do in Middlesbrough’s first leg showdown with Coventry City on Sunday, but the American goalkeeper now returns home with hopes of advancing to the English Football League Championship promotion playoff final.

Steffen and Middlesbrough are level 0-0 on aggregate with Coventry City heading into Wednesday’s second leg at the Riverside Stadium. The Manchester City loanee didn’t need to make a single save on Sunday and will be hoping for a similar performance with Michael Carrick’s squad having the home field advantage. Steffen has registered 10 clean sheets for Middlesbrough in league play and will be seeking a positive end to his loan spell with potential promotion on the cards for Boro.

Elsewhere in England, Ethan Horvath and Luton Town host Lynden Gooch and Sunderland in the second leg of their promotion playoff semifinal tie.

In Europe, Djordje Mihailovic and AZ Alkmaar host West Ham United in UEFA Conference League semifinal action.
