MLS Week 15 Preview: St. Louis hosts Whitecaps, Crew visits Nashville SC, and more

After a string of three matches over a two-week period, several MLS teams have gotten a chance to freshen up ahead of the final matchday of May.

Fresh off a 4-0 demolition of local rivals, Sporting Kansas City, St. Louis City SC will play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Caps are coming off a big rivalry win of their own, beating Cascadia Cup rivals, Seattle Sounders.

Hany Mukhtar stole three points at the death for Nashville SC last week against Charlotte FC. The best defensive team in MLS will now welcome a Columbus Crew side that has scored 25 goals already this season.

Orlando City will be eager to earn consecutive victories for the first time this season as they welcome Atlanta United to Exploria Stadium. Elsewhere, the Houston Dynamo will host Austin FC in their second Texas Derby over the past two weeks.

St. Louis City SC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

Saturday, 8:30 pm ET, AppleTV+

After two straight losses, the Vancouver Whitecaps bounced back in a big way with a 2-0 rivalry win over the Seattle Sounders. It was a statement win for the Caps, and they’ll hope that their scoring form can continue as they visit CityPark for the first time.

Brian White and Simon Becher continue to lead the attack for Vancouver.

St. Louis CITY SC will also be eager to keep the goals flowing after scoring four against SKC. Talisman Joao Klauss has been missing for St. Louis since its draw against Colorado in April. Nicholas Gioacchini and Indiana Vassilev will try and fill in the void left by Klauss’ absence.

Nashville SC vs. Columbus Crew

Sunday, 8:30 pm ET, AppleTV+

Nashville SC has continued to be a tough team to break down this season, conceding only nine goals so far in 2023. Gary Smith’s squad have also been quality in front of their home crowd, with 17 points earned from their eight home matches.

The Columbus Crew have also been quality at home, but their away form paints a much different story, with only four points earned from six road matches.

With Nashville’s backline tough to break down, the Crew will need their stars Lucas Zelarayan and Cucho Hernadez to be firing on all cylinders to get something from Geodis Park.

Orlando City vs. Atlanta United

Saturday, 7:30 pm ET, AppleTV+

Orlando City claimed an important derby win over Inter Miami last weekend and will now try to register a first winning streak in Week 15.

The Lions have been up-and-down so far in 2023 but will have plenty of confidence following a derby victory. Duncan Maguire has been a surprise story in the Lions attack, sitting tied with Ercan Kara for the club lead in goals (4).

Atlanta United also scored three goals last weekend but had a much different result in their 3-3 draw with the Chicago Fire. The Five Stripes will want to recapture their early season form that had them sitting on top of the East, and that all comes from Thiago Almada controlling the tempo.

Caleb Wiley continues to miss out through international duty.

Houston Dynamo vs. Austin FC

Saturday, 8:30 pm ET, AppleTV+

Only one point separates these Texas rivals in the table, and both will be desperate for three points in their latest rivalry showdown.

Key players like Dynamo captain Hector Herrera will be returning from red card suspension for Houston and they will certainly need him against an Austin FC team that hopes to catch form following its win against Toronto FC.

The Dynamo have only conceded only once at home this season so it will be a tall task for Josh Wolff’s attack in this matchup.
