Malik Tillman is currently building up his fitness for the 2023-24 European season and although Bayern Munich might not be in his future, he is on the reported radar of several other European clubs.
Bundesliga clubs Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart and English Premier League sides Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion have all been linked with Tillman this summer, Sport1 reported Saturday. However, neither of those four clubs have submitted an official request to Bayern to acquire the U.S. men’s national team attacker, according to the report.
Tillman, 21, is continuing his rehabilitation following a season-ending thigh injury while on loan with Scottish Premiership club Rangers. He is expected to join up Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern squad during preseason camp, unless a transfer is agreed prior to that.
Tillman has made just seven senior appearances with Bayern, scoring once against Bremer SV in the 2021-22 German DFB Pokal.
Tillman enjoyed a stellar loan spell in Glasgow last season, registering 12 goals and five assists in 43 combined appearances under Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale. He earned several honors in Scotland, including being named to the SPFL and PFA Scotland Best XI teams, and earning SPFL and Rangers’ Young Player of the Year honors.
A former German youth national team player, Tillman switched his international allegiance to the USMNT last summer. He’s earned four caps with the USMNT across all competitions.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s sixth-place finish guaranteed them a first-ever berth into a European competition. The Seagulls will enter the UEFA Europa League group stage later this September.
Brentford did not qualify for Europe, but still enjoyed a positive ninth-place finish in the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s squad missed out on a UEFA Europa Conference League berth by two points.
Eintracht Frankfurt finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season while Stuttgart escaped relegation after defeating Hamburg 6-1 on aggregate in the relegation/promotion playoffs. Tillman worked under Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness during Hoeness’ time with Bayern youth teams.
Don’t think he will be in Tuchels plans. Hope he gets a move. Brighton and Hove or Eintracht would be good destinations.
