Tim Weah diagnosed with thigh injury at Juventus

Timothy Weah wasn’t risked for the second half of Juventus’ 1-0 Serie A victory over Hellas Verona on Saturday and the club announced on Monday why the American’s early substitution occurred.

Weah has been diagnosed with a thigh injury, Juventus announced Monday. The 23-year-old started and played 45 minutes against Hellas Verona before being replaced by Fabio Miretti for the second half of Saturday’s victory.

“Following the muscle problem reported during the match against Hellas Verona on Saturday evening, Timothy Weah underwent instrumental tests at J|Medical late this morning which highlighted a low-grade lesion of the semitendinosus of the right thigh,” a club statement read.

“The footballer has already started the rehabilitation process aimed at resuming competitive activity.”

Weah made a permanent move to Juventus this summer from Ligue 1 side Lille and since has made 10 appearances for Massimiliano Allegri’s squad. He has registered one assist to date in Serie A play, featuring as a winger, wing back, and right midfielder at different occasions.

His injury is not only a worry for Allegri but also for U.S. men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter.

The USMNT will face Trinidad & Tobago this November in a two-legged Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal showdown. Weah has recorded one goal and one assist combined over the last two international windows.

  1. Are the U23’s having a camp too for continued Olympic, because if not I could see Taylor Booth getting a call up in Timo’s place. I just don’t see Tillman and Gio as effective enough wingers with how we use our wingers in a 4-2-3-1, those 2 are more influential playing underneath the ST

    • I believe they have said there will be a camp but there is nothing on the schedule at this point from what I see. Zendajas has been playing well for CA. Booth seems to be still getting fit after his injury. Honestly Paredes or Ferreira should be plenty good enough for two legs with Trinidad.

      • Yes, I know just doesn’t look from his numbers that he’s in top form. Whereas, Zendajas is dropping in Golazos. Taylor can go with the U23s as well. Honestly TnT hasn’t been able to stay with Morris, Ferreira, and Roldan so it shouldn’t be a crisis if Tim and/or Pulisic are out.

    • I expect McKennie to start at wing if they play a 4231. In a 4231, he is the odd man out because he is not very good as a 6 (not his position) – lots of data points to show that. Although I think they are more likely to go back to a 433 with McKennie and Reyna as the 8s considering the level of competition. It puts McKennie, who is one of the best players on the team at his best position and still gives Reyna the ability to play like a 10 when attacking. He will just have more defensive responsibilities than a traditional 10.

  2. this is unfortunate. He seemed to be in good form and getting better. His speed is such an upgrade for Juve. The combo play and movement of he and Wes is fun to watch. AND he puts in an honest days work defending too! If he’s out, he’ll be missed.

    Is it Koleosho time?

    • Koleosho not trying to commit yet. Berhalther said in interviews he been trying to recruit him. He not ready. Plus he is in Italy back pocket.

    • TTX3S,

What makes you think Koleosho is better than what we already have?
He’s not as good as Pulisic, Weah or Gio. And he may never be.
He might be better than Brenden right now or eventually but that isn’t saying much.

Leeds appears to have sucked the life out of Brenden.
