USMNT U-23’s to face France in latest pre-Olympic friendly

The U.S. Under-23 men’s national team will have its first match of 2024 in late-March as preparations continue for the Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Marko Mitrovic’s squad will face off with France on March 25 at Stade Bonal in Montbéliard, U.S. Soccer announced Friday. It will mark the fifth match for the USMNT U-23’s since returning to action during the October international window.

Mitrović has led the squad to victories over both Mexico and Japan, as well as a draw with Iraq. The American also suffered a 1-0 loss to Morocco.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for us to play France- the Olympic host and a strong soccer nation,” said Mitrovic, “France is consistently one of the world’s top teams at every age group. This match provides a great chance for us to face another challenging opponent as we continue preparations for the Olympic Games.”

The United States qualified for its first Olympic Tournament in 16 years with a strong performance at the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Cade Cowell, Jack McGlynn, Taylor Booth, and Gianluca Busio headline the players who have featured during the previous U-23 windows last fall.

France qualified as host of the 2024 Olympics and is coached by legendary forward Thierry Henry. Henry excelled at club level for Arsenal, Monaco, and Barcelona, among others, and also won the FIFA World Cup for Les Bleus.
