Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Macario, Fox, and more

Chelsea’s first opportunity to lift a trophy out of a potential four this season comes on Sunday with a London Derby headlining the WSL Cup Final.

Catarina Macario and the Blues face off with Emily Fox and Arsenal at Molineux Stadium. Macario has registered two goals and one assist across all competitions since her return to action from a serious knee injury. The U.S. women’s national team forward will have a point to prove in Emma Hayes’ squad, especially with international duty vastly approaching this April and summer.

Fox recently started in Arsenal’s 3-1 WSL victory over Aston Villa and has fit right into the plans with the Gunners. The USMNT fullback will also be lifting a trophy lift this weekend, even if it means defeating her international teammate Macario in the process.

In England, Tyler Adams and Bournemouth host Everton. Antonee Robinson and Auston Trusty go head-to-head. Gio Reyna and Nottingham Forest host Chris Richards and Crystal Palace.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan take on Fiorentina. Weston McKennie and Juventus visit Lazio.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis visit Girona.

Elsewhere, Cade Cowell and Brandon Vazquez square off in Liga MX play. Mark McKenzie and Genk take on Union St. Gilloise. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic travel to Livingston in SPFL action. Rokas Pukstas and Hajduk Split face off with rivals Dinamo Zagreb in Croatian first division play. Emmanuel Sabbi and Folarin Balogun resume Ligue 1 action in France.

    • Also, she and Eva Gaetino (PSG) play this weekend in Ligue 1 Feminine as does Horan (Lyon). Yohannes and Ajax play in the Netherlands…all games on Sunday.

    • Well she kind of stepped in it on social media this week so not sure she’s going to receive a warm welcome at camp.

      • Eww..didn’t know. But as apologies go….it’s as good as any. Still she’s probably got some work to do in both locker rooms.

      • That she’s 20 probably will help people be a bit more forgiving, but I can’t believe no one at PSG, USSF, or Notre Dame had cautioned her about use of social media.

  1. Not abroad yet, but lots of reports that Cavan Sullivan to Man City is done. Sounds like he’ll stay with Phil. Union until he turns 18. Made his MLS Next Pro debut last week an assist in 34 minutes off the bench.

    • That one is different. I don’t ordinarily get excited by prospects until I see them doing it at a professional level but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one quite like him either. If he avoids the Big Head and doesn’t get Freddy Adu disease the sky’s the limit there.

Philadelphia’s youth academy is doing some work. They’ve actually been outproducing even FC Dallas in recent years.
