Should PSV wind up sealing the Eredivisie title later this spring, Malik Tillman can be thanked heavily for his production in the squad.
Tillman’s impressive loan spell from Bayern Munich continued over the past week with the U.S. men’s national team midfielder registering three assists in a pair of victory. After assisting once midweek against Excelsior, Tillman registered two assists in Saturday’s 5-1 romp over AZ Alkmaar.
The 21-year-old is now up to six goals and 13 assists for the Eredivisie league leaders across all competitions. After signing an extension with Bayern Munich prior to his loan move to the Netherlands, Tillman’s future looks very bright at club level.
Whether or not he can carry that impact over to the U.S. men’s national team remains to be seen, but a strong end to the club campaign could be what boosts him into the Copa America squad this summer.
Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from this past week:
Christian Pulisic
Christian Pulisic has reached double-digit goals in Serie A play this season.
Pulisic scored a wonderful opener on Saturday as AC Milan defeated Lecce 3-0 at home. The USMNT star has been one of the top performers in Stefano Pioli’s squad this season and will aim to finish on a strong note.
UEFA Europa League quarterfinal action comes this week for Pulisic.
Haji Wright
An upset home win for Coventry City was sealed by in-form striker Haji Wright.
Wright scored the second goal for Mark Robins’ squad in a 2-1 EFL Championship triumph over Leeds United. It was the 16th goal for Wright across all competitions this season, continuing an impressive debut campaign in England.
Coventry City remains in the fight for a top-six finish and will count on Wright’s production to help get them over the line.
Alex Zendejas
Alex Zendejas continued his strong recent run of form by scoring yet again on Saturday.
Zendejas scored his fifth goal in the past three weeks as Club America tied Santos Laguna 1-1 in Liga MX action. In addition to his substitute performance on Saturday, the 26-year-old also found the back of the net last week in CONCACAF Champions Cup play vs. the New England Revolution.
Zendejas now has 11 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season.
Mark McKenzie
Genk’s quest to lift the Belgian Pro League title continued Saturday with a 1-0 road win over Royal Antwerp.
USMNT defender Mark McKenzie excelled in defense, logging 90 minutes in a three-man backline. The recently reported West Ham United target has remained a constant for Genk this season and will be seeking a strong end to his club campaign, as well as potentially his time in Belgium.
What did you think of these individual performances this past week? Was there anyone left off the list that you would’ve added?
