A pair of Olympic hopefuls will meet for the final time this Bundesliga season.
Kevin Paredes and Joe Scally square off as Wolfsburg hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday. Both teams are level on 28 points apiece and are hoping to not get sucked into the relegation fight at the bottom end of the league table.
Paredes, 20, has scored two goals in 23 league appearances this season, taking another key step forward in his development. The U.S. men’s national team winger is eligible to feature in Paris this summer and will be seeking a strong conclusion to his domestic campaign.
The 21-year-old Scally could also be in the mix for an Olympic call-up this summer. Scally has made 26 appearances for Gladbach this season, scoring one goal and adding two assists. His versatility has seen him used as both as a left back and right back this campaign, which could be useful for the USMNT squad in France and during the upcoming Copa America.
In England, Tyler Adams and Bournemouth visit Luton Town. Antonee Robinson and Fulham host Newcastle United. Haji Wright faces Leeds United.
In France, Folarin Balogun and AS Monaco take on Rennes in Ligue 1 action.

re certain teams not being on US TV (or at least often) and that impacting NT chances, have we regressed from the pre-internet age? there was a time when very little of anything was on tv here, and then usually in spanish. so, that point, you want to find players, you hire a scout. you buy a plane ticket. or you make a deal with someone to get tapes of desired games from other countries. as i understand it, we have a GM staff. you put it to work doing more “eyes on” scouting and less calculator analytics or watching the same set of identified players we already know about.
because IMO we already have a good idea of how some of them stack up. we resist it like mad with this club form stuff and existing hierarchy. but by now we should get that, say, reyna is better than tillman. it says bad bad things about the state of scouting and coaching here that even gets confused. oh, tillman looked better on paper this time? when has he ever looked better in a US game. ever. dude can supposedly improve in club and first chance he gets USA is gonna be in the stands on the shot. it’s club form gone mad.
last point but maybe look more at skillsets as opposed to form. if the US plans on playing half court soccer, what you need is a point guard who can break down a defense that sees most of it coming. we instead fetishize two-way hustle types who are good on counters and deadballs and then work hard, but can’t break down a defense. ok, if you want to play an athletic game, play with urgency and don’t let the defenses get back. feed weston on a counter.
anyhow, if what people get excited about a player doing every club week doesn’t fit what we are trying to do, so what? otherwise we’re just playing all star teams and getting frustrated the starting lineups never seem to work.
What you’re speaking of is routine management tasks isn’t it?
Alf,
IV believes the people on SBI are the actual scouts for the USMNT and that is why it is having problems instead of listening to IV.
Now maybe Gregg , or an assistant of his, religiously monitors SBI, compiles a ratings list based on the posts here and then uses that to build the USMNT roster.
Maybe. But I don’t think that is how Gregg does it.
There is an old saying that if you listen too closely to the fans pretty soon you will be where you can talk to them in person, up in the stands , during a USMNT game as someone else manages the team.
Gregg and his staff aren’t watching matches on TV. They have access to the scouting video that clubs use. They can watch Romain Gall in the Regionalliga or Eduvi Ikoba in the K League 2 every week. They aren’t dependent on a ESPN+ subscription. Also if you paid much attention Gregg is in Europe often watching our guys, and USSF has scouts who also has scouts that are in Europe full time.

Malik started because Gio couldn’t go 180 minutes in a window. We saw he was gassed at about 70 minutes against Mexico.
