Atlanta United left back Caleb Wiley is nearing a deal to join the English Premier League club in a permanent deal, The Athletic reported. Wiley would be loaned to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg to earn early minutes in Europe.

The Five Stripes would receive a $10.9 million fee for Wiley and the 19-year-old would sign a contract until June 2031, according to the report.

Wiley would become the latest Five Stripes player sold in recent weeks, joining Giorgos Giakoumakis and Thiago Almada on the way out of Atlanta.

Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League last season while Strasbourg finished 13th in Ligue 1.

  1. Is he the guy in the New Balance commercial? Saw it today but that guy had an English accent. Maybe a different guy but looks similar. Need to watch it again.

    • Never mind, the guy in the New Balance commercial is Endrick Felipe. He and Wiley have similar hairstyles and stature if you see them for only a few seconds.

  3. Good move especially if he can earn minutes at Strasbourg. Hoping he can be an option at LB for Nats next cycle.

  4. Huh. Well that’s interesting. I would say Tolkin is the better of the two. Both have big upside though. Congrats Wiley.

I foresee Tolkin leaving Red Bulls soon as well.

    • Based on what? Wiley is a more technical, well rounded and dangerous player, that can lay multiple positions. Tolkin is probably the better defender right now, but I don’t see any other area that puts Wiley below Tolkin imo. In today’s game teams are prioritizing more athletic, offensive minded fullbacks and Wiley fits that profile a whole lot more than Tolkin does for me
