Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Gooch faces Morris, and more

The EFL Cup second round takes place this week with Lynden Gooch and Aidan Morris set to meet in an All-Championship affair.

Gooch and Stoke City welcome Morris and Middlesbrough to town, with both teams seeking advancement in the competition. The 28-year-old Gooch has started three of the Potters’ four matches this season, including registering one assist in a 2-0 first round victory over Carlisle United.

The former U.S. men’s national team defender has remained a key performer this season for the Potters and could be called on this week to start again.

Morris, 22, has started in all four of his appearances this season, including a 90-minute shift in a 3-0 win over Leeds United in the first round. After a successful spell with the Columbus Crew, Morris has made a quick adjustment to life in England in Michael Carrick’s squad.

Elsewhere in England, Antonee Robinson and Fulham visit Birmingham City. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace welcome Josh Sargent and Norwich City to Selhurst Park.
