Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Aaronson, Trusty, and more

Leeds United missed out on promotion back to the English Premier League last May and now kicks off a new opportunity this weekend.

Brenden Aaronson and the rest of Daniel Farke’s squad welcomes Portsmouth to Elland Road on Saturday. Aaronson is back in West Yorkshire after spending last season on loan at Union Berlin. The U.S. men’s national team attacker scored two goals and added two assists in the Bundesliga campaign, helping Union Berlin fight off relegation.

Now with a new opportunity to be a consistent player at Leeds, Aaronson will seek a strong start on Saturday against newly promoted Portsmouth.

Elsewhere in England, Auston Trusty and Sheffield United visit Preston North End.

In Italy, Tanner Tessmann, Gianluca Busio and Venezia kick off their competitive schedule in Coppa Italia play.

In Scotland, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic visit Hibernian.

Elsewhere, Jonathan Amon and Christian Cappis continue their league schedule in Denmark. George Bello and LASK take on Rheindorf Altach.

  1. Richie Ledezma being listed as the starter RB for PSV today. We’ll see if that is where he lines up, but surprising to see him in the starting lineup.

    • Richie did play 70 mins at RB. Overall not asked to do much defending as PSV had a lot of the ball. His replacement Teze’s(rumored to be headed to Monaco) weak clearance header led to RKC goal.

  2. Bundesliga doesn’t start this week….hahaha I know that Johnny. The Dortmund / Villareal game was not even listed as a friendly and the halves were just 30 mins a piece. So I don’t know why Reyna was even playing as Borussia Dortmund had reportedly decided to permanently part ways with him this summer and they picked up another American Cole Campbell (18)

    I don’t know what he’s waiting for

    • I don’t think they listed any friendlies. I watched parts of the Dortmund match with Villarreal. Who doesn’t love The Yellow Submarine vs The Yellow Wall. There’s another American potentially Tyler Meiser who is a CB/DM will play with Campbell on the U19s played with Dortmund in their earlier friendlies before regulars got back. They did play 120 minutes, 30 minute quarters not halves. Gio 77 mins.

Maybe Sahin wants to see what he’s got.

    • Bundesliga doesn’t start this week. I think they have a friendly with Aston Villa. Gio started friendly Tuesday with Brandt being held out for rest.

    • It’s really , really hard to get a job in the first team of these top 5 league teams in Europe.

American fans think that if you are a USMNT regular that European teams will just fall all over each to sign you.

      That’s not true.

With those clubs there is almost always someone younger or cheaper, or better who can be found. That said, it was not that long ago that many here thought Pulisic was washed up. And remember that he has had only one standout season. He needs to build on that to insure a happy ending to his narrative.
