Tim Ream’s Fulham career has come to an end.
The veteran centerback has joined Charlotte FC in a permanent deal from the English Premier League side, both teams announced Wednesday. Ream signed a two-year contract through 2026, which includes a club option for 2027.
“When I walked through the Motspur Park doors in 2015, I would have never predicted what the following nine years would bring,” Ream said in a club interview with Fulham. “The memories made, the connections formed, and the people met along the way have made my time at Fulham more than special.
“I wish I could thank everyone individually for the part they played in shaping me as player, but more as a person. For all of that, I am beyond grateful. As of today, I am no longer a player, but I will always be a fan of Fulham Football Club.”
Ream, a Missouri native, spent the last nine seasons with Fulham in both the Premier League and English Championship. He totaled 312 appearances for the Cottagers, helping secure three promotions back to the English top-flight.
Alongside fellow international teammate Antonee Robinson, Ream helped the Cottagers to a top-half finish in 2022-23. Ream also featured for fellow English side Bolton Wanderers during his professional career abroad.
“I’m really excited to join Charlotte FC and return to the US for this next chapter of my career,” said Ream in a Charlotte FC interview. “In all my conversations with the people around the Club, it was clear this organization and city were the right places for my family and I to continue our journey. I’m here to win, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team as we prepare for a key stretch of matches that will propel us toward the playoffs as we fight for our first trophy.”
Since debuting for the U.S. men’s national team in 2010, Ream has earned 61 caps. He featured in all three of the USMNT’s Copa America matches this summer.
Charlotte FC sits sixth in the Eastern Conference after Dean Smith’s arrival as head coach.
‘Tim Ream isn’t USMNT best 1 v 1 defender, he’s just left footed.’ If you’re going to quote someone, at least, get what the person said correctly. Good luck Ream! Last of the 80s babies, 1st decade of the millennials, returning to the MLS.
RESPECT!!!
like i said during the buildup to copa, ream while injured over xmas, came back for a few february games, then was a dressed but unused sub for most of the games from week 26-37, with the exception of 33 — when he wasn’t even dressed. he then got to play a final game and bring the FFC curtain down. i can’t believe i had to squabble with people over the fairly clear signals the london brass thought he was done at FFC.
but of course the US wasn’t listening to the signals either, as he started in both copa losses to panama and uruguay, the colombia and germany friendly blowouts, the trinidad NL loss, the dutch elimination loss, etc.
