Sullivan, Cowell, Carrizo headline USMNT U-17 roster for Vaclav Jezek Tournament

The U.S. Under-17 men’s national team are back at the Vaclav Jezek Tournament this week, with another young group of promising talents set to feature.

Cavan Sullivan, Chance Cowell, and Maximo Carrizo headline Gonzalo Segares’ 18-player roster for the competition. The Americans will face Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia from Aug. 30-Sept. 9 in the first window of the new cycle.

It will serve as an early training period for the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

Seven players represented the United States at the 2023 Concacaf Boys’ U-15 Championship in the Dominican Republic last year. Defenders Pedro Guimaraes, Adrian Sanders and Gio Villa, midfielders Luca Moisa and Jude Terry, and forwards Chase Adams and Sullivan were part of that roster.

Sullivan, who has garnered plenty of attention following his homegrown contract signing with the Philadelphia Union, won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

Goalkeeper Aidan Stokes, midfielder Carrizo and forwards Chance Cowell and Sullivan have all signed MLS homegrown deals. Cowell is the younger brother of Chivas and USMNT forward Cade Cowell while Sullivan is the younger brother of former USMNT U-20 standout Quinn Sullivan.

  1. A class that could emulate/exceed the 99 Donovan class, and the Pulisic class. The main issue will be that they are almost all dual Nats. We are gonna get, but also lose some real nice players in this class. Still better than not having the quality.

  2. Seems like a talented group. I do think Sullivan may have a shot at making the U20 team for the WC. Especially considering who may or may not be released for the tournament.

  3. Landon Emanelo is the son of Michael Emanelo who was a Chelsea scout and technical director. He’s now director of the Saudi Pro League. Emanelo also worked with Hayes to build Chelsea’s women’s team. Landon is DM and LB who trained with Pochettino some last year and has represented England’s U16s. Seems more comfortable as a DM and reads the game well from that position, currently with Chelsea’s U18s.
