Cade Cowell’s absence from Chivas de Guadalajara’s recent Liga MX loss to Club America could reportedly keep him sidelined for a lengthy period of time.
Cowell missed the match due to a muscle injury, which will now lead to him missing at least one month, Estadio Deportes reported Monday. The U.S. men’s national team forward did not dress in Chivas’ 1-0 league loss to Club America, which was the club’s first loss of Apertura season.
Cowell enjoyed a positive start to the season, winning the Liga MX Player of the Month award for July. He scored three goals and added one assist in four appearances, helping Chivas earn two wins and one draw over that span.
However, his recent absence could force problems for Chivas, who have three matches left this month. Chivas will host Club Leon and Monterrey, while also traveling to Cruz Azul in between.
Cowell, who featured in both of the USMNT’s September friendlies, might not be back in action until after the October international window.
No one gets playing time at LW, if CP is the only one getting minutes. Tim Weah is faster and jumps higher than Cade. Cade Cowell doesn’t have Mbappe or Vin Jr speed, lol. Weah does. Cade is playing in Liga MX. Weah played in Ligue 1. Does Liga MX have better athleticism than Ligue 1? Quozzel, in the 7 years I’ve been here, you’ve never talked about foot speed. You haven’t talked about what part of the country the fastest Americans come from. You haven’t even brought up the countries that are known for foot speed. You once said “black players play a certain way and Hispanic’s play different way” while you say you live in Atlanta?! Holy Kreis, The Hispanic population in Fulton County is less than 10%, divided by caucasian & Asian ethnicities. Well. if you truly live in Atlanta like I do, then you would know the ‘19 World Champ at the 100m, & 1x indoor champ at the 60m is from Atl. He placed 4th at US trials this year and wasn’t fast enough to go the Olympics. He lost to Texas, FLA, & Wisconsin. In the last 10 years, the state of GA has had the 4th most NFL Hall of famer’s. GA isn’t the 4th most populous state. GA also had 3 players make the 22 WC roster- Thor, Shaq, & Striker91’s college teammate Sean Johnson. Throw in George Bello & Caleb, I’m from the same hometown as Shaq Moore, and it’s not Atlanta; Wiley, & that makes the 5 of the states 1rst players to ever make a USMNT roster for anything. This is known throughout the coaching ranks in all the team sports in this state save baseball. The states best baseball players come middle & South Georgia. Foot speed is cherished here the whole state. Why not speak on the athletes from the state you say you live? You really think a Chicano from the Cali is a better athlete than those from the south? Or Jamaican-Liberian from the east coast? Yes, than you’re crazier than Striker91. And his comments absolutely wreak of mental illness. (Not a joke). Q, …Cade Cowell isn’t faster than Shaq or George Bello, my friend. C’mon man, this is simple. Cade Cowell ran an 11 sec 100m while in middle school that’s blazing. That’s slow compared to the times at junior national at that age. If Bello or Shaq ran track like Cade did, they would have a faster time. Disagreement aside, I do wish a speedy recovery for the west coaster. He’s played a lot of minutes in the last two years (club/international). One day, I hope people realize the American soccer player will need to be on a NFL or NBA training regimen. Quick twitch athletes need to be rotated or put on a minute restriction. If you think this is a rant? Just know I think rants are done with capital letters. Im only in my 40s so what do I know, right!
I would appreciate it if you didn’t put words in my mouth. I said there was a difference between the Anglo style – which is how most black and white players in the US play – that puts an emphasis on hard running, intensity, and physicality, and the Spanish/Latino style, that has more emphasis on letting the ball do the work, technicality, fluidity, and intelligent movement. I tried very hard to combine the two with my teams. (And I was from Upstate South Carolina, not Atlanta, though my teams played all over the Southeast. I live in Detroit now for work reasons.)
At the time what I was doing cut very much against the grain of most of the big regional clubs and schools. I have noticed, though, that the Spanish/Latino influence has definitely gotten into American soccer. You watch MLS, and while there’s a range of styles, many teams are more fluid, sophisticated, and fun-to-watch than say, the EFL Championship, which is as brute, direct, physical, and Anglo as Anglo soccer gets. Watching the Championship is just…not fun, for me, I find a lot of games hard to watch.
So yeah, I’m very familiar with the level of athleticism in the Southeast. But I still say Cade’s a mutant and the best athlete in the pool. Those happen sometimes. I mean, Gareth Bale and Christiano Ronaldo were astounding athletes, some of the best in world soccer in recent years. Cowell’s a lot more like Bale than Ronaldo in style (and technical ability), and the trick with Bale was actually getting him to slow it down, play under control, and pick and choose his spots to use his explosive pace rather than just run around like Sonic the Hedgehog after a power-up.
You also may want to look at the metrics regarding Cade. Only one guy in MLS history – Alphonso Davies – has been clocked as faster than Cowell, who comes in even a hair faster than Denis Bouanga, who is hands-down the best athlete now playing in MLS.
Dang. Well he has plenty of time to impress Poch.
Crap. I was hoping to get a look at him in the next camp. We’ve never seen Cowell play with the big boys before. I don’t see him as a starter – yet – but he is absolutely a guy who can come off the bench for the USMNT and change a game. I personally think he’s probably on the roster for the 2026 World Cup.
He’s still a wild colt but he’s also progressing a lot with Chivas. If he continues to grow he could be something by 2026. There is no other athlete like him in the pool, none.
crap timing. this was going to be a transition period to the new coach’s people where what GB or varas thought would matter less. he will miss at least the first window.
there is a november window this year, would be his plus if he heals up.
