Cade Cowell looks to have picked up where he left off for Liga MX side Chivas.
Cowell logged 45 minutes off the bench on Tuesday, scoring his fourth league goal in a 3-2 home victory over Necaxa. The U.S. men’s national team forward had only just returned to action last Saturday after missing over one month due to a muscle injury.
Cowell entered the match at halftime with Chivas down 1-0 but immediately made an instant impact. His right footed finish in the 50th minute tied the match for Chivas before Ricardo Martin and Victor Guzman added goals of their own later in the half.
The 21-year-old finished the match with two duels won, two dribbles completed, and a major confidence boost.
Chivas continues league play on Friday at Puebla.
In Europe, Christian Pulisic scored for AC Milan in a Champions League win.
In England, Haji Wright, Brenden Aaronson, and Duane Holmes all got on the scoresheet for their clubs. Josh Sargent registered his fifth league assist for Norwich City.

……..Not a bad week
What did players for Argentina, Germany, or Spain do midweek? By our standards it was a good couple days, compare it to the teams we’d have to beat though? How many Spanish NT players in the Championship or Liga Mx?
Johnny,
I got to,say, I like the insight and the enthusiasm, but we’re still the soft, meek, mild and unmotivated USMNT, who have been struggling to beat our Canadian and Mexican concacaf rivals……… With the former beating us all while using some MLS players
We are nowhere near Argentina, Germany, Spain, Brazil, England, etc ……. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be happy for players in the US pool doing well in lower leagues lol 🤣
Objectively we lost because Mexico has a EPL caliber CF and we lost to Canada because of Davis, Davies, and Larin. Yes they had 3 MLS players starting, but they also had 5 Top 5 league players and 2 CL players in Johnston and Eustaquio. Those 7 guys are all regular starters in those leagues too. I know Shaffelburg scored but largely because on Canada people leave him alone because everyone is drawn to their big players. You watch him in MLS and he does nothing. I mean I’d take him on my Crew as a back up but he scored Saturday which was his first MLS goal since May 29.
Objectively we lost because Mexico has a EPL caliber CF……BUT WE LOST
we lost to Canada because of Davis, Davies, and Larin……..BUT WE LOST
we lost to trinidad & Tobago that kicked us out of the 2018 world Cup even though we had our best Euro / MLS players (and they had LOCAL PLAYERS lol)……BUT WE LOST
Plain and simple
And Please do not compare Canada’s player pool to the USMNT player pool……Please, it’s not even close. ON PAPER USMNT can make two teams and beat even single team in CONCACAF. So when it comes to Canada, JESSE MARSCH is turning water into wine North of the border
We have players in:
the EPL ranked number 1 in the world
Serie A ranked number 2
Bundesliga ranked number 3
La Liga ranked number 4
Ligue 1 ranked number 5
Belgium Pro League ranked number 8
MLS CURRENTLY RANKED NUMBER 9
EFL Championship (ENG) ranked number 11
Eredivisie ranked number 12
Liga MX currently ranked number 14
When it come to players in top leagues…….IT’S NOT EVEN CLOSE, as even in the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD we have a Left Back that’s ONE OF THE BEST IN THAT POSITION and in the SECOND BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD we have a player currently ranked 12th in Serie A according to Transfermarkt, and 3rd among all players at AC Milan
“Please, it’s not even close. ON PAPER USMNT can make two teams and beat even single team in CONCACAF.”
This has been true for many years. So what? Nobody cares.
Pochettino is not being paid to dominate CONCACAF. We have been doing that for years and years , can do it now, and will do it until we’re all dead.
As for Canada, the comparison is about QUALITY not QUANTITY.
On paper, Canada do have fewer top flight players than we do but they do matchup well with the USMNT.
For center forward we have Wright Josh, Balogun. They have David and Larin.
Advantage Canada
For attacking wingers/midfield/#10 we have CP, Weston, Weah. They have Davies, Eustaqio, Tajon, It’s probably about even.
The rest is more or less even. We are, on paper, better than Canada but that doesn’t seem to bother them.
They know they have a shot at beating us any time we play and that is all you can ask.
Cade Cowell has a good combination of skill and speed, that immediately shows anytime he’s on the pitch and that is a commodity that is greatly needed on the USMNT. He scored a good goal coming off the bench (min 11:10), bouncing back from an injury BUT MY MANS HAS TO HAVE / develop that sharpness and work on enhancing his clinical finish in front of goal (especially in the late minutes of the game!!!!) to push pass other players in our pool. He missed a wide open chance that even bewildered the commentator (min 14:42, made him switch from Spanish to English……that was so funny.)

This kid with a clinical finish would be dangerous and racking up goals in Liga MX
he needs to have a phone call with dempsey. dempsey out of furman at NER was a raw and entertaining dancing winger who was sloppy finishing. dempsey after a little bit at FFC became a finishing machine. someone took him over to the practice pitch after training and worked on his shooting. someone gave him tips. after they he started putting balls in the corner of the net and even got made a striker.
cowell has some footspeed and creates chaos, it’s a final product thing. and to be blunt, if he doesn’t get final product, he’s already B/C team, campbell, yow, and the other kids coming up will surpass him.
that being said, careerwise, him, sargent, you produce at that level, you will play a while professionally. it’s still can you offer the Nats something that works there, though.
IV,
Until Cade proves he has that goal scoring touch for the USMNT, he’s just another in a very long line of pretty faces.
Nice goal by Cowell. I think he is developing nicely and he is still only 21. Another one to add to the mix.
