Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Trusty, Morris, and more

Celtic’s quest for the first of several potential trophies this season continues on Saturday with a trip to Hampden Park.

Brendan Rodgers’ squad faces off with fellow SPFL side Aberdeen in the semifinals of the Scottish League Cup. Auston Trusty will aim to retain his starting spot in the Hoops backline, with fellow U.S. men’s national team teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers back and available for action.

Trusty made the move to Celtic from English second-tier club Sheffield United this past summer and has since made eight combined appearances. The 26-year-old defender has recently excelled in performances against Atalanta and Dundee FC, showing Celtic fans why the club paid close to $8 million for his services.

A showdown with Aberdeen will be Trusty’s first experience of Hampden Park and the American knows a victory would boost them into a potential finals meeting with rivals Rangers.

In England, Antonee Robinson and Fulham host Brentford in a London Derby. Aidan Morris and Haji Wright go head-to-head in the EFL Championship.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis visit Athletic Bilbao in La Liga action.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and AC Milan visit Monza. Gianluca Busio and Venezia faces Inter Milan.

In Germany, Julian Green and Greuther Furth face Darmstadt in 2. Bundesliga play. Cole Campbell will continue his time with Borussia Dortmund.

Elsewhere, a trio of USWNT players square off when Lyon hosts PSG in France. Cade Cowell and Chivas host Pumas in Liga MX play. Ricardo Pepi and PSV face Ajax away from home. George Bello and LASK host Hartberg. Paxten Aaronson and FC Utrecht visit Sparta Rotterdam.
