Daryl Dike won’t play a part in West Bromwich Albion’s next two months of matches.
Dike’s new muscle injury will keep him sidelined until after the busy Christmas period, Baggies manager Carlos Corberan said Thursday. The U.S. men’s national team forward was on pace to return to action this month, but suffered a setback last weekend in training.
A former MLS standout with Orlando City, Dike had been out of action since rupturing his Achilles last February. Now his frustrating year will unfortunately continue with another grueling period of rehabilitation.
“[When] Daryl suffered his original injury we hoped he’d be back before Christmas. The new muscle injury will now mean he will return after Christmas,” Corberan said ahead of West Brom’s Friday trip to Luton Town.
Injuries have plagued Dike’s time at West Brom, reducing him to only 32 combined appearances since joining from the Lions in January 2022. He’s scored eight goals over that span, but missed ample time for both and country.
West Brom sits fifth in the EFL Championship standings and have 11 league matches remaining in 2024 before the second half of the season begins in January.
Poor guy. He’s got a bright future ahead of him; I just don’t know how much of it is in soccer.
“I just don’t know how much of it is in soccer.”
Most of it won’t be.
If he’s lucky he’ll get another 5- 10 as a player. But he seems like a fine young man with a great family and support structure.
We can always use more people like him, period..
