Weston McKennie is quickly becoming a key target for Juventus this winter.
McKennie scored the opening goal of Juventus’ 2-1 road win over Monza in Serie A play on Sunday. The American midfielder logged 90 minutes and helped the Bianconeri stay in the top six heading into Christmas.
McKennie volleyed home Juventus opener after 14 minutes, scoring for the second match out of the past five overall. Monza cleared its lines from a corner kick but the ensuing service found McKennie for a 1-0 lead.
Samuele Birindelli equalized for Monza only nine minutes later but Nicolas Gonzalez would deliver the eventual winning goal before halftime.
The 26-year-old McKennie featured once again at left back in Thiago Motta’s squad, winning four duels, making nine recoveries, and two interceptions.
Juventus will next host Fiorentina on Dec. 29 to close its 2024 schedule.

Starting to worry about Musah falling out of favor at AC Milan. I hope it’s just rest.
Muscle injury out until mid-January
A bigger worry is whether Fonseca keeps his job.
He’s been a big Yunus fan.
re. Gio’s three minutes, seemingly insignificant, but I give Sahin some credit here. He subbed in Gio for Brandt to defend in the middle and 10 man Dortmund held on to win on the road. Yes, just for a few minutes, but still. I remember a play last season under Terzic when, late in a game, Gio didn’t recover on a turnover after being subbed in, and Brandt, who had played the entire game, gave every last ounce to try and get back and stop the play, even tho Dortmund conceded on that play. I bet that sequence has been discussed
I guess Gio really doesn’t want to play for the Galaxy.
It looks like Sahin is settling on his second half of the season rotation and Gio, who looks like Brandt’s deputy, seems to be a part of that mostly very young attacking crew of Adeyemi,Malen, Gittens, Beier, Guirassy and Brandt.
That’s a good start.
