Leeds United jumped to top of the EFL Championship on Tuesday by extending a positive run of form at Elland Road.
Brenden Aaronson iced a 3-1 home result over Middlesbrough by scoring his fifth goal of the season. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder logged 90 minutes as Daniel Farke’s men claimed their fifth win out of the past six matches.
Willie Gnonto propelled the hosts in front after 14 minutes, giving Leeds United a 1-0 lead that they would take into halftime. A
A Maxi Wober own goal tied things up for Middlesbrough in the 54th minute but Leeds would fight back and eventually take all three points.
Daniel James’ top-shelf finish in the 74th minute made it 2-1 before Aaronson’s left-footed finish capped off a fast break in second-half stoppage time.
It marked Aaronson’s first goal since November 2.
Leeds United will hit the road this weekend for a Saturday showdown with Preston North End. The EFL Championship leaders will also face Oxford United (home), Stoke City (away), and Derby County (away) to close out a busy December schedule.
Sorry for the duplication.
“Leeds United are looking into a potential January transfer deal for United States international youngster Diego Luna of MLS side Real Salt Lake.
Another obstacle in the Whites’ pursuit of Luna’s signature is the European competition. While no club is yet to make a formal attempt at negotiations, Leeds will be wary of clubs in Belgium, Italy and Holland who may be looming in the race.”
Lets gooooooo!!!!
I pointed that story out to 2tone yesterday. I wasn’t sure how real it is, but a Leeds fan site also picked it up so who knows. I’d think he’d be in direct competition with Aaronson at the 10 spot. The Championship schedule is brutal though with 46 matches so they need a lot of depth at every position. They were saying that the Leeds keeper is leaving though which wouldn’t be great for them. Bamford also leaving which would be good.
Illan Meslier leaving is just as good as getting Patrick Bamford off the books. He was part of the weakest link for Leeds United when they in the First Division. Meslier is a good keeper for a good mid-table English Second Division team and if Leeds want to go and stay in the Prem they need a EPL quality / caliber keeper…… and he’s not it. He’s a decent backup at best
Bizzy, I don’t disagree he’s not EPL level, but they better have an option to replace him because he’s good enough to get them promoted with the rest of the team they have. He’s a bit in the Horvath mode, big saves and howlers.
Big saves and Horvath howlers with horrific Turneresque distribution.
I don’t think you should get credit for a goal when you trip over the ball and it goes in.
Lol. Well plenty of top strikers have done the same things. A goal is a goal. He thought number 14 was going to tap it in who fluffed it and it basically bounced off of Brendo.
What are you talking about? The pass is hit behind him. He has to drag his foot to direct it in. That was great body control. He doesn’t trip at all.
If BA had not put that in, you all would be crucifying him for missing a sitter.
It was a very awkward ball and BA kept his cool and managed to direct it in. I’ve seen that play get screwed up many times by better players than BA.
‘Right place, right time’, is the most important skill a striker could have.
