Close to two months since his last appearance for Middlesbrough, Aidan Morris is on the verge of his return.
Morris returned to training this week ahead of Middlesbrough’s upcoming EFL Championship match with Portsmouth on Saturday. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder had been sidelined since November’s international break with an ankle injury.
Morris suffered the injury with the USMNT, which led to him missing ample time for Middlesbrough. However, he is on pace to make his long-awaited return this weekend, which comes at a crucial time for Michael Carrick’s men.
“Aidan is back training and Luke [Ayling] is back training too,” Carrick said today in his prematch press conference. “They’ve not had an awful lot of sessions between them yet, but they are back, so that’s a positive step for both of them.”
Morris has made 17 appearances for Middlesbrough across all competitions following his summer transfer from Columbus Crew. The two-time MLS Cup winner jumped right into the squad and remained a consistent starter prior to his injury.
The Teesside club sits sixth in the league standings and are one point clear of seventh-place West Bromwich Albion.
