Christian Pulisic didn’t start AC Milan’s Serie A match on Saturday but had a final say in the scoreline.
Pulisic came off the bench and registered two assists as the Rossoneri defeated Empoli 2-0 away from home. The U.S. men’s national team star delivered a lively substitute performance as AC Milan moved to seventh in the league table.
After a goal-less first half, Pulisic entered the pitch to begin the second half.
Pulisic’s cross in the 68th minute was finished off by Rafael Leao, giving Sergio Conceciao’s squad a 1-0 lead. It marked Pulisic’s eighth assist of the season in all competitions.
AC Milan would ice its eventual victory eight minutes later as Pulisic connected with Santiago Gimenez for a 2-0 advantage. Pulisic nudged a pass upfield for Gimenez to chase onto before the Mexican forward drilled his first Serie A goal.
The result extended AC Milan’s unbeaten run to three matches in all competitions.
Pulisic is now up to 12 goals and nine assists for the Rossoneri this season.
AC Milan will now prepare for the resumption of its UEFA Champions League campaign against Eredivisie side Feyenoord on February 12.
CP is becoming the guy Milan thought Leao was supposed to be.
6 golas and 6 assists in Serie A so far this season. Pretty decent year so far. Hope to see both increase to 10 or over by the end of the season.
The last couple of games I’ve seen, Milan seems to have him playing deeper so he doesn’t get a lot of looks at goal. Maybe it was a week ago when he looked to have an open look at goal from the top of the box, but passed it to a teammate who was farther forward, but well covered. If anything Pulisic was too unselfish. Despite Pulisic getting the good stats, I thought Musah was actually more involved, had an excellent game and he went the full 90. Milan has added some good players in January, so they have a lot of depth. Today was an interesting game in that each team lost a man to a red card and it really opened up after that. The first half was pretty even and Empoli had the best chance with a shot that caromed off the intersection of the near post and crossbar.
