Bournemouth concluded its top-half finish in the 2024-25 English Premier League season on Sunday.
Tyler Adams capped off a strong season for the Cherries, logging 90 minutes in a 2-0 home victory over Leicester City. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder made his 32nd appearance of the season across all competitions, helping Bournemouth finish ninth in the league table.
Adams, 26, completed 90% of his passes against the visiting Foxes, winning six duels, and completing two tackles. Antoine Semenyo’s second-half brace led Andoni Iraola’s men to a season finale victory at the Vitality Stadium.
After delivering one of the best club campaigns of his career, Adams will now have a short break before joining up with the USMNT in June.
Elsewhere in England, Antonee Robinson and Fulham lost at home to Manchester City. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace earned one point in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

We might still see Diego Kochen at the Gold Cup. Patrick Schulte was injured during warmups Saturday night and Zach Steffen is dealing with an abdominal injury. But let’s be honest if both aren’t available it’s probably Chris Brady who comes in because that’s what US Soccer does.
Thanks for the update JR.
The Crew announced today (Tuesday) Schulte out 2 to 6 weeks with an oblique injury. Couldn’t find an update on Steffen but with a similar injury he’d be on 2 weeks out of his 2-6 weeks. Looking really good for Matt Freese’s chances of making the final roster.
Kudos to Fabian Hurzeler, guiding Brighton to 8th in his first season in a top flight. Best season ever for an American manager in EPL.
Pukstas has fallen off. Was expecting him to get transfered and USMnt call ups but no. I hope he and Slonina turn it around big let down.
Gattuso took over as manager and Split brought in some more experienced players to try to make a title run. It didn’t work. Played more matches this season but 1,000 less minutes. Rakitic took a lot of his minutes. Pukstas has a similar problem to a lot of Americans not offensive enough for a traditional 10, not fast enough to stretch the line as a wing, so they are kind of stuck in this 6/8 role that they are also not technical enough for. He’s still only 20, be nice if he could find a top team in Belgium, Netherlands, or Austria, make a small jump where he’d still be able to get good minutes.
JR,
“Played more matches this season but 1,000 less minutes. ”
All things being equal do you get the feeling that they are trying to find his best role?
While everything I’ve read about him does not suggest he is a great passer, he seems to be very fundamentally sound all around and thus has been seen as a box to box type.
Usually, that means they haven’t yet found a more specific role for him.
V: it’s so hard to tell, as far as I know there’s no US broadcasts of Croatian league games. You can find extended highlights of their matches and if you understand Croatian there’s usually Gattuso and player interviews at the end, but sadly my Croatian is lacking. He came on as an Attacker this week (two 10s under the striker), but most of his other recent matches are as dual 6. He definitely gives off more a Johnny or Tessmann vibe than a Tyler Adams. He seems to do just enough defending to get in people’s way but he’d rather get forward. They seem to use him to make the near post run on corners and set pieces and he’s a bit of a poacher in the box. Maybe, Weston is the best comparison, because of his aerial ability and his ability to get in good spots in the box. Not saying he’s that quality just that style. If I’m a mid-league team and I can pick up an 21 yr old American MF with double digit goals and 60+ appearances for Split for a fairly low price seems like a no brainer.

Also of note the match was delayed 20 minutes while the Split supporters unloaded all their remaining flares onto the pitch (last game of the season and all). They might have been ticked by a soft red card shortly after Pukstas’s goal, but again my Croatian is rusty. They had to bring the fire truck in to put them out with a hose. Good thing most Croatian stadiums are open on the ends.
JR,
My Croatian is non-existent.
We have always produced good athletic all around midfielders like Pukstas.
The difference these days being that they are much more fundamentally, technically sound than they used to be ( starting with Weston and then moving to guys like Tessman). I always felt that Euro clubs bought into the stereotype that big, strong Americans were more inherently coachable. Whether that is actually true or not I’m not so sure.
Hopefully, he finds coaching that can refine what his best self is.
