Juventus coughed up two points on the road at Lazio on Saturday, but Weston McKennie did not disappoint in the result.
McKennie registered one assist in Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Lazio in a crucial Serie A match for both clubs. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder helped the Bianconeri break through in the 51st minute, delivering a peach of a pass to Randal Kolo Muani inside of the Lazio box.
McKennie’s cross from the left wing was headed home by Muani, giving Juventus a 1-0 second-half lead. However, a 96th minute equalizer for Lazio helped the hosts earn a share of the spoils.
McKennie, who played the full 90 minutes in the match, won four duels and drew two fouls from his attacking midfield position. The 26-year-old now has five goals and three assists in 42 appearances this season.
Juventus sits in fourth place in the Serie A standings with two matches left to play.

There’s not really a regular MLS recap this year (probably because no one used to read it). Some happenings of note.
– Luna had an absolute golazo against FCD. RSL is pretty awful it’s Diego and literally nothing else. They’ve started playing 18 yr old U20 winger Zavier Goza. He’s raw but hasn’t looked terrible. I thought he was the weakest of the U20 wingers in qualifying last summer but he’s playing when Birchimas, Medina, D.Vazquez are not.
– Paxton Pomykal returned after 14 months off with a knee injury.
– Alex Freeman and Peyton Miller squared off in a battle of young FBs both played in the NE/Orl 3-3 both are get forward FBs. Freeman probably had the slight edge but at 20 is 3 yrs older. Freeman is 4 months to old for the U20 WC in the fall.
– Jalen Neal made his first start of the season.
– Cavan Sullivan made his first start for the Union first team in the US Open Cup. He’s still a ways away from full Nat callup. Even the U20s this fall seems a bit of a stretch.
Thanks for this. You are the only one I’ve seen mentioning S Berhalter but he has impressed me as well in the couple games I’ve seen. I haven’t seen enough to judge whether he’s USMNT material but he does seem to have a knack for showing up in the right spots at the right times and providing end product. If he keeps improving, SBI heads will explode.
In somewhat the same vein as Zendajas and Miljevic, what do you do with Jonathan Klinsmann? He’s got Cesena in position to make the Serie B promotion playoffs. They just need a draw on Tuesday or a Bari draw or loss. Like Matko his MLS numbers were weak but now has found consistent minutes in Serie B and is doing well.
I read an interview of him with Cesena.
He has the size ( 6’4″ 200 lbs), the tools ( apparently was a striker or winger for quite a while coming up so he does possess the requisite foot skills to do the things that make me look away when Matt has to do them with his feet).
I always thought that with him it was mainly a question of his motivation coupled with how to handle the baggage of his legacy. At 28 he is just about the right goalkeeper age for that lightbulb in his head to go off, if it ever does.
.
I would rate him a very dark horse. If he does do really well, LD’s commentary on him would be worth waiting for.
Zendejas form should put him on the Gold Cup team. Luna, Zendejas, Pulisic, and White most in form attackers.
And Milijevic for Huracan. This site still ignores how well he has been playing in Argentina and the Copa Sudamericana.
You think Pochettino doesn’t know?
Milijevic argued with Captain Jack McGlynn over the ball on a free kick and while moonlighting got into some minor spitting and fisticuffs with a team mate in another non MLS league. So some people on this site think the Croat is bad egg ( like Geoff Cameron) and he’s probably not even a real American. Perhaps Tim Howard would question his motivation.
When you’re argumentative you become a diva shit bag. And maybe he is, but I think the real reason people do not root for this guy is that he is a direct threat to big balls himself, Diego Luna, arguably the most popular USMNT newcomer.
This is stupid since Diego’s spot is more secure than just about anyone.
Who cares what this site thinks of Milijevic. This site would have ignored Pele because he only played his club ball in Brazil.
Only one opinion matters as Diego Luna knows very well.
V: the real reason people don’t go gaga for Miljevic, is he’s never been overly productive in mid level leagues and he’s been kicked off more teams than defenders IV would permanently park inside the six yard box. He was a big name in 2019/20 when we had a dual nat in Argentina signing up to play with U20s. That team’s WC got canceled and he moved to MLS after Covid with a modest 1g in 15 appearances in Argentina. Then in 3 years in Montreal he managed only 35 MLS appearances (largely injury related) managing just 2g 2a. Despite having his contract terminated in Montreal for signing up for an indoor mens league under a false name (Matko Milojevic, so tricky) and then assaulting another player in a match his team wasn’t even playing in, Matko found a spot on Newell’s Old Boys. As their starting #10 he had a career season, 2g 1a. When they replaced their manager, Matko twice got into arguments with the new manager once on the field and the next match during halftime. When you have 5g and 3a over five years as a pro you probably shouldn’t be screaming at the manager for taking you out for your lack of productivity. Matko has put up good stats this spring all 5 assists however, have come against Racing from Uruguay. Uruguay has one of the lowest pro salaries in the world at $12,000 for the average player. Argentina is about $300,000. Both leagues have had their top domestic talent picked from, but if your from Uruguay you head to other leagues as fast as possible. You throw in 3 of 5 Matko goals have come from the penalty spot and Alan Sonora’s mediocre USMNT performances after putting up similar Argentine League performances and fans are skeptical. Are there some people out there concerned with his lineage, probably but that’s not the reason most people are lukewarm. If you put the ball in the net people will look past brawling and cussing out your manager. If your an attacking player that only beats up on teams making less than minimum wage in Mississippi people are skeptical.
JR,
You have a point but this site has gone gaga over far less talented and more useless people than our Croat friend.
Besides if y’all are familiar with the various weaknesses of the “he plays for Huracan in the weak ass Argentine league” argument, I’m guessing Pochettino knows those leagues and those players as least as well as any of us so I have to ask myself, why did he call the guy in?
I’m saying that the actual excitement that a players generates on this site does not always have anything to do with how good they actually are so much as the narrative around them.
And by the way, the pressure on penalty takers these days seems to be far greater than ever. I wouldn’t talk about penalties as if any dork can score them. Being a consistently good penalty taker is a good thing not a bad thing.
And for what it’s worth, I was shocked by how soft Sonora looked and played. But that’s him not necessarily everyone else in the league.
What Milijevic has going for him is that he seems to be playing better since his cameo for us. Other than that there is little to say about him one way or the other. As far as I know, he hasn’t yelled at Captain Jack lately.
His fate with the 2026 WC team will be decided, most likely by three things.
Flo
Pepi
and
Will it be a 26 or a 23 man roster?
V: for what it’s worth he’s Bosnian of Croatian descent and even his parents never lived either place from what I’ve read. His eligibility is from his grandfather. Matko lived in the US from birth to age 9, before his family moved back to Argentina. Matko at least started the process to get a Croatian passport before he played for US U20s. Recently it was Bosnia who reached out with interest. Honestly, I think he spent about as much of his life in the US as Weston McKennie (although life on a US military base is kind of US living.)
Zendajas has never shown that type of form for the US. Club America outspends everyone in league outside Monterrey and most by at least double. They spend about 20 million more than Pachuca who they just defeated.
—————————
Sebastian Berhalter is tearing it up for Vancouver as well. The question for Berhalter, White, and Zendajas is can they have as big of impact for the NT as they do for their club. USMNT history is littered with guys like Robbie Findley, Edson Buddle, Jeff Cunningham, and Taylor Twellman.
