Gianluca Busio, Venezia suffer Serie A relegation

Venezia endured its toughest day of the 2024-25 Serie A season on Sunday.

Gianluca Busio and Venezia suffered relegation to Serie B following a 3-2 home loss to Juventus. Busio, who did not dress in the match, played a large role in the squad throughout the season.

Daniel Fila opened the scoring for Venezia in the second minute, but the Bianconeri would rally to flip the match in its favor before halftime.

Kenan Yildiz and Randal Kolo Muani scored six minutes apart to make it 2-1 before the break.

Ridgeciano Haps equalized for Venezia 10 minutes into the second half. However, Juventus would have the final say in the scoreline.

Manuel Locatelli’s 73rd minute penalty-kick goal proved to be the difference as Juventus earned a 3-2 win to seal a UEFA Champions League berth.

Fellow Americans Weston McKennie and Tim Weah both featured off of the bench in Igor Tudor’s squad.

Busio logged 33 league appearances this season, registering two goals. The former Sporting KC midfielder could now very well leave the club this summer following relegation.

  1. Can someone please explain to me exactly what Busio does to “deserve” a better club?

He is slow and weak defensively and offers almost nothing going forward.

Does he deserve any responsibility Venezia’s relegation?

    • stop it! Busio for me has a way higher ceiling than Gooch ever did, he just needs to get into a more competitive environment, with better players!

    • I think it’s way too early to make that determination, but in the immediacy Tessman has progressed and seems to be on track to being a helluva player. I think Busio has a high ceiling tbh, he just needs to get around better players and into an environment that will push him every training session

  2. Yeah, Busio has to get out there bc yo- yoing from Serie B to Serie A every other season doesn’t help him get better. He’d proven that he can productive in Serie A, but I think he should go somewhere like France or the Netherlands to keep growing as a player…….what’s Busio, like 22y/o?
