Sources: Stockport County, Reading among clubs in mix for Jonathan Tomkinson

Jonathan Tomkinson’s time at Norwich City and Ross County may be over but interest has continued to grow elsewhere for the American defender.

English League One clubs Reading, Stockport County, and Rotherham United are among several clubs interested in signing Tomkinson this summer, sources close to the player confirmed to SBI. Tomkinson most recently became a free agent after his contract at Norwich City expired.

The Texas native was not retained by Norwich City after spending the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Scottish club Ross County. Tomkinson made 13 Premiership appearances for Ross County but did not feature in the club’s two legged series with Livingston.

Livingston’s 5-3 aggregate loss condemned Ross County to the Scottish second-tier for next season. Ross County was previously interested in signing Tomkinson permanently, but talks have quieted since.

Tomkinson made three first-team appearances for Norwich City during this time at Carrow Road, while also spending time at Stevenage and Bradford City on loan.

A former U.S. youth national team defender, Tomkinson has yet to earn his senior national team debut. He previously featured for the Under-23’s, Under-20’s, and Under-17’s.

Stockport County finished third in League One last season before falling to eventual finalists Leyton Orient in the promotion playoffs. They will be among the promotion challengers again this season.

Reading finished seventh in League One, missing out on the playoffs by three points, while Rotherham United was 13th after dropping down from the EFL Championship the prior season.
