Timmy Chandler signs contract extension with Eintracht Frankfurt

Timmy Chandler is staying in Germany for a further season.

Chandler signed a contract extension with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt through the 2025-26 campaign, the club announced. The veteran fullback/midfielder most recently featured in Frankfurt’s 4-0 win over RB Leipzig on April 26.

“Everyone knows how much Eintracht Frankfurt means to me,” he said in an interview. “I love coming here every day and giving everything for this club. I am very happy to extend my contract and to play with the eagle on my chest in the coming season.”

Chandler, 35, has played in three matches for the Super Eagles this season across all competitions. He has also continued to prepare for his post-playing career in Frankfurt.

After originally coming through Frankfurt’s youth system, Chandler debuted for the first team in 2014. He has proceeded to make 198 first-team appearances, scoring 10 goals, and also helped the club win the UEFA Europa League and German Cup.

He also made 102 appearances for FC Nuremberg from 2010-2014 prior to his return to Frankfurt.

Chandler has earned 29 senior caps with the U.S. men’s national team.

“Timmy Chandler has a great place at Eintracht Frankfurt,” Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche said. “He has worked hard for this over all these years. He is still an important player for us – both on and off the field. He is a valuable point of contact on a daily basis, especially for our young players. Therefore, we are happy that Timmy will also play with us next season.”

Eintracht Frankfurt sits third in the Bundesliga standings with two matches remaining on its schedule this month.

  1. I saw his first appearance for the USMNT. It was a 1-1 result in a friendly vs Argentina in NJ. He was subbed in at half to replace Cherundolo who suffered a knee injury. He showed very well and became Bradley’s go to fullback when Dolo’s performance suffered after the knee injury. Klinsmann selected him for the WC, but he did not play.

      • We got through what was considered the Group of Death with Germany, Portugal, and Ghana. Germany eventually won and Portugal was ranked about #6 in the world with Ronaldo at his height of ability. We would have beaten Portugal (it was a draw), but the team didn’t listen to Klinsmann in the final minutes allowing for the tying goal. Also, we were hampered in the tournament because Altidore was injured in the first game and Klinsmann’s offensive strategy was based in large part using Altidore as a hold up forward. Just about all outside observers were very surprised that the US got through. Then we took Belgium to overtime when they had a much better team. However you rate his decisions, we over achieved.

      • “some very poor and strange decisions in his WC.”

        Such as?

        1. He had bad luck with injuries to Jozy and Clint and Arjo.

        2. But in terms of the newbies he brought to Brazil:
        a. JAB scored the winning goal vs Ghana
        b. Yedlin with his speed and energy gave the team quite a lift as a sub later in games.
        c. Green scored a goal that kept the USMNT in touch with Belgium in overtime.

        3. He got good use out of Zusi, Besler and Beckerman, his unloved MLS trio.
        4. He made the right call in leaving LD home. Everyone talks about the great things LD might have done for the USMNT. MAYBE. He’s still furious about it. Managing a World Cup team is tough enough without having to deal with a clubhouse lawyer having a passive-aggressive hissy fit with the media before every game that he does not start. Those of you who think that LD did not have the juice to cause a problem did not see how much turmoil the Reynas, a less powerful old boy entity, caused the mom and pop USSF eight years later. Even now LD still has powerful old friends
None of you talk about the damage that might have happened in having an unhappy powerful volcanic ego like LD on the bench wondering why he is not starting or at least the first option. When Donovan was not playing he was a very unhappy camper. As far as I’m concerned, LD made the decision for them when LD decided to opt out of the qualifiers.
I’m not talking about the team or JK holding a grudge against him.
The reason why he opted out is irrelevant. In all walks of life, If you’re not there, when it is all happening then either the whole thing blows up OR people move on no matter what. Especially when the one opting out gives no time table of if, or when they might be back.
So LD opts out, they move on and won their first big game without him in over ten years when they won the Snow Bowl in Denver. That’s when I knew this was now Clint and JJ’s team and that LD was going to have a hard time getting back in.
JK was unlucky with the injuries but having so many in that one position and the fact that they advanced anyway, shows you what a good job he did.
JK has his issues as a manager but he did a fine job in the 2014 World Cup with a team that had the least talent in the group.

      • Nice work if you can get it.
When he debuted for the USMNT I thought he was the best left and right back that we had.

But it did not work out over the long haul.. Maybe it’s an oversimplification but his comfort zone was playing in the BL and he did not seem to thrive outside of that.

He was another in the very long list of examples that it takes more than just sheer talent.
