Tim Weah enjoyed a positive season with Juventus, but now reportedly looks set to a move to the English Premier League.
Nottingham Forest has agreed a deal to acquire both Weah and Samuel Mbangula in a pair of separate transfers, ESPN reported Monday. Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad will now aim to agree personal terms with both players, according to the report.
Juventus are set to receive roughly €22 million for the pair of players.
Weah, 25, is currently part of Juventus’ involvement at the FIFA Club World Cup, although has only featured in one of the Bianconeri’s two group stage matches. Igor Tudor’s men have already clinched a Round of 16 berth heading into Thursday’s clash with Manchester City.
Weah scored six goals and added four assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for Juventus last season. He’s made 78 appearances for the club since joining from French side Lille in January 2023.
The New York native has earned 44 caps for the U.S. men’s national team to date, but has yet to feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this year.
Nottingham Forest are preparing for UEFA Europa Conference League involvement after finishing seventh in the Premier League last May.
“Juventus left Timothy Weah and Samuel Mbangula out of the squad for the Club World Cup against Manchester City, AFTER they rejected a Nottingham Forest transfer.”
Bruh…..SALTY??? Please say it’s not so!!!
Sounds like Weah may not agree to the deal.
I’m seeing there may be other offers/interest from Premiere League teams – Spurs (always a house on fire) or Everton – fighting relegation every year. I love Everton and all – especially with Moyes there, but unless he’s guaranteed a starting position at RW, I’d rather see him at an Elanga-less Forest…or stay put.
Spot on!!!!
“According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nottingham Forest have asked Milan for Yunus Musah after Timothy Weah refused to leave Juventus for the Premier League side……
“Forrest have now turned their focus to fellow USMNT member and Serie A player Musah, but it is no secret that Milan have put him on the market for €25m, which failed to go through in terms for a move to Napoli earlier in the summer.”
Next…..lol
forgive me for saying that starts to sound like a marketing move — or series of them. musah and weah are dramatically different players. but it kind of looks like they want to have an american around who they may not even play much. turner, reyna, this “interchangeable” deal.
i essentially agree with JR. you just finished well into the top half of EPL and made lowkey europe. you have a productive striker who needs service. you don’t sell your lead wing and statistically downgrade the position. you maybe sign weah as backup to handle the fixture congestion, the double league games, the european conference league fixtures. they try to sell elanga, he backs up if it doesn’t work. if it does work maybe he briefly handles the transition but surely they sign a starter.
i mean, history is turner got a half season of games in 2 years and reyna got 230′ there. the difference is weah can play european conference league or the double weeks. european conference league last year for CFC early on was like astana, gent, shamrock rovers, noah FC, servette. yes, i think timmy can handle that.
so i think this is more ambition at backup. forest is signing a juve backup to handle their overflow. i don’t know how much that helps weah other than a new team and a cut of the transfer fee.
what concerns me is i’ve not heard a peep on a reyna deal. i know he’s at CWC but BD doesn’t really want him. weah is playing 45′ for juve at CWC and he still has rumors out there.
last thing lyon (tessman) got relegated to french ligue deux for financial problems and that’s where turner was supposed to go. that would be a different situation. be curious if that goes through.
Report out today that Gio’s agency was kicking the tires with the big three in The Netherlands (Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord). Could be a bad sign that his agent is out cold calling possible buyers, but maybe a good sign that BvB have him priced to move if the Eredivisie clubs can afford him.
Heard inklings of Rangers as a possibility for Reyna too. Since daddy played there it could be acceptable. Also saw something about a Turkeye club…
re “bad sign,” meh, sounds like he’s being allowed to start his own market. maybe they jump in if the price rises enough and interest grows. i’d be more worried if a dutch selling team is willing to pay dortmund’s price tag. they don’t tend to spend much more than 15m. they make players then sell them, more than buy.
i think holland would be a good landing spot. technical attacking league where he could put up some offensive numbers our analytics for brains folks could not ignore. PSV has some americans but i’d almost worry at some cumulative point they’d be fighting over the same playing time.
re MOO’s comment, rangers would be an interesting choice, some american history but not lately, probably lateral to MLS, more physical of a league. to me he needs to stay healthy to be in the world cup mix. so last thing he needs is some scottish player crunching him. even if i am sure he can handle a league that makes young harkes or polvara look good.
turkey you’ve had games played with paychecks or do our guys make their foreign player quota. anyone remembereric lichaj or tyler boyd anymore? plus people lobbing missiles at each other in the region. pass. and i understand some guys have made pit stops there but no one seems to stay, even when it goes well.
Nothing on the Rangers front since April. I’m not sure I’d like that move. SPL is so bad, I guess you have 8 guaranteed good matches in Europa League. They’ve only made it thru CL qualifying once recently. Tillman scored the goal that won their first qualifying round then he assisted on the goal to beat PSV and make CL group stage.
IV: Dortmund’s price in January was supposedly 10-15 million so he should be in the Dutch big threes price range. Maybe a little high for Feyenoord. Just really doubt Earnie is interested in the circus again, but who knows.
– As for Turkey, if they sign Gio for 10 million he’ll make their roster. Boyd was like a 2 million transfer and Lichaj was free. Boyd had an unproductive season at Bestikas, then tried to move him but couldn’t so he basically sat until Jan when he got transferred to Sivasspor. Then Rivaspor but he was never very productive even at Galaxy. Both Tyler and Eric also went to Turkey in the middle of Covid which probably didn’t help. As I recall Lichaj got hurt and his family had stayed in England, plus he was at the end of his career. Haji Wright had a great stint in Turkey. 29g 5a in 60 appearances got his first NT call ups and made WC while playing in Turkey.
—————————
Ultimately it’s up to Gio. If he’s playing like he was in 20/21 even in limited minutes in 22/23 he’ll be fine in Netherlands or Turkey.
re weah, you’re misreading the sitch. you have a team that just burst onto the EPL top handful and headed to europe, with a productive striker. he needs service. elanga gave that fairly productively.
i get they are trying to sell elanga but common sense suggests weah is far less productive, and thus the more likely scenario is they sell elanga, sign weah but also a starting wing, and weah is your bench upgrade who handles the european fixture load. otherwise it’s rather risky for a recently emerged team to dismantle their wings for a less productive italian player.
the optimistic naivete around this sitch is amusing. they gonna fool you three times? turner played a half season worth of games in 2 years. gio got 230′ on loan. the difference is they now will need to deal with european conference league. so he would see the field for the equivalent of CFC’s schedule last year, gent, shamrock rovers, astana, servette, etc. off the bench in EPL, maybe spot start when the schedule is busy.
that being said, what i’ve read is transfer deal sorted and it’s down to personal terms. so unless that part blows up, he’s gone.
fwiw, lyon, where tessmann is, has been relegated to ligue deux for financial issues. i’ll be curious if turner’s transfer goes through, and if it does, different competitive/scouting situation.
I think this is an interesting move considering the style Forest play. This could be a great fit for Weah. All things considered…he produced decent attacking numbers for Juve playing in spots and often in the back. Most of his time there was in very conservative systems that struggled for goals. I expect him to challenge for a starting position after Elanga is sold no matter who else comes in with the transefer money raised. Both Weah and player X will be new and need to prove themselves. His crossing is underrated (those low driven balls into the box that just need a directed touch) and a guy like Wood will love having that service. His speed on counters will be perfect for their system as well. I think this is a perfect fit for his game and a good bit of business from Forest to identify a player that will fit their system. And to get Mbangula as well….surprised Juventus let him go but they seem to sell their young guys instead of integrate them into the A side.
oof – Lyon and Turner….not sure I mentioned it on here but while others were worried about him having to compete to start I was worried about this eventuality. I hope the delay in the announcement was due to waiting for the French FA’s decision. This was the most likely outcome. It didn’t come out of left field. Ligue2? Yikes…go to a Championship team or do a Steffen and rehabilitate in MLS.
He has the same profile as Elanga. There is a reason why they are signing Weah. He can play multiple attacking positions which is a good thing. He will now have to take this opportunity and make the coach see he has value. Its on our players regardless of where they are at to solidify a starting role.
I agree…the little I know about Forest is that they like to counter. I think this fits him well. And with all the games Forest will be playing this year there will plenty of games to go around. He is more likely to get attacking football in while playing for Forest than Juventus. I’m all in for this.
This doesn’t add up.
This is not a better move for Weah, as it is unlikely to provide starting opportunities or more minutes than he currently received…unless it is strictly about money.
That said, even that doesn’t compute. Aina is on $2.8M. Weah is currently on $2.9M. Not sure Nottingham brings Weah in for more money than the current incumbent…especially if he is not slated to start in front of Aina.
On a side note, Johnny Cardoso to Atletico has been announced as a done deal.
Larry,
“The New York native has earned 44 caps for the U.S. men’s national team to date, but has yet to feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this year.”
Huh??…Weah started both games for the USMNT this past March for Nations League.

Hopefully he gets more starts at RW.
Not looking like that’s the plan. Hudson-Odoi is a lock at LW. Elanga may move this summer, but I’m not sure they’d just replace him with Tim at RW. Probably would use that guesstimate 40 million on a bigger profile RW.
JR,
At this point his identity seems to be as that RW/RB/Rwingback that he did so well for Juve.
Versatility can be the key to a long career but I was hoping to see more of him as a RW or even striker.
Still you never know. Good for him .
If he has a good WC then who knows what happens?
Forest could be looking to deploy more of a 4-3-3 when Wood is ineffective and move Hudson-Odom more central They run 4-2-3-1 with Chris Woods play a traditional target forward . When Woods in taken out of a game they flounder
Nuno doesn’t use WBs so that seems out. Aina and Williams are both under contract and started every game at RB and LB minus a couple due to injury. This on paper looks like less minutes than last year unless Elanga is leaving and they aren’t replacing him. They are also pretty set at CF with Wood and supposedly signing Igor Jesus from Botafogo.
Interesting…but only if he has a real chance to start. If he is going from a champions league team to a conference league team to be a sub or rotational starter then it seems like it’s not worth it. Even if he wasn’t an every game starter, he played quite a bit at Juve last year.
