The latest six players MLS All-Stars have been announced.
San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza and Nashville SC midfielder Hany Mukhtar headlined the latest six players named to the summer showdown, MLS announced Tuesday. New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil, Seattle Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas, Orlando City forward Marco Pasalic, and Nashville SC attacker Sam Surridge rounded out the players named early.
Espinoza has remained a creative spark for San Jose this season, tallying four goals and 11 assists in 20 league appearances.
Gil, a 2021 MLS MVP winner, has totaled eight goals and seven assists in 21 matches for New England.
The Nashville SC duo of Mukhtar and Surridge have been influential in BJ Callaghan’s squad this season. Mukhtar and Surridge have combined for 26 goals and 11 assists as Nashville SC pushes for top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Pasalic might be one of the newer faces in MLS, but it hasn’t stopped him from being explosive for Orlando City. The Croatian attacker has 10 goals and four assists to his name this season in 22 appearances.
Vargas, 19, has continued to blossom into one of the league’s top young stars. The homegrown midfielder has one goal and three assists in 18 appearances this season and is on pace to set several new career-highs.
The MLS All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 23 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas against the Liga MX All-Stars. Alex Zendejas, James Rodriguez, Paulinho, and Henry Martin are among the standout players that will be part of the Liga MX squad.
I’m surprised Andres Dreyer of San Diego FC isn’t among the early mentions. He has 10 goals and 15 assists and the team leads the Western Division.
He is, this should have said the six additional players added. There were 12 vote winners and 12 original coaches selections. Dreyer was selected by Nico Estevez in that initial roster selection. Then Garber added Agyemang and Chucky Lozano. They added these six to replace some injured guys or guys like Pat who are leaving.
Thanks, I had thought I had seen Dreyer was named, but was misled by this article.
