Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Thompson, Tomkinson, and more

Alyssa Thompson is picking up steam for WSL side Chelsea.

Thompson scored for the second-consecutive WSL match in Chelsea’s 1-1 road draw with Liverpool on Sunday. The U.S. women’s national team forward has now has an impact in Chelsea goals over the past week, after also drawing a penalty kick midweek against St. Poelten.

Thompson was played upfield by Johanna Kaneryd before cutting into the Liverpool box and drilling a right-footed shot into the top-right corner. It marked Thompson’s third goal of the season in all competitions.

Liverpool would fight back to earn a draw in the match, making it back-to-back dropped results for Chelsea in WSL play. Thompson played the full 90 minutes for the Blues while Catarina Macario played 45 minutes and Naomi Girma featured off of the bench for 45 minutes too.

Chelsea will turn back to UEFA Women’s Champions League action this week with Barcelona coming to London.

Elsewhere in England, Jonathan Tomkinson and Cheltenham Town lost at Tranmere Rovers. Coventry City loanee Aidan Dausch came off the bench in Forest Green Rovers’ 3-1 win over Gateshead.

Jonathan Tomkinson started and played 90 minutes in Cheltenham Town’s 3-2 loss to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

National League

Aidan Dausch came off the bench and played eight minutes in Forest Green Rovers’ 3-1 win over Gateshead on Saturday.

WSL

Alyssa Thompson started, scored ONE GOAL, and played 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

Catarina Macario started and played 45 minutes for Chelsea.

Naomi Girma came off the bench and played 45 minutes for Chelsea.

Emily Fox started and played 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce did not dress in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

    as good as any others in the pool, if not the best one imho, which is saying a lot with this pool for Coach Hayes

    she makes it look easy at that level, just has to stay healthy and not make people want to blast her, and to that she is humble and speaks and acts with humility, still plays with a lethal edge clearly too tho
