USMNT: Timothy Tillman added to roster; Adams, Zawadzki out

The U.S. men’s national team’s November roster will look a bit different in comparison to Mauricio Pochettino’s previous announcement.

LAFC midfielder Timothy Tillman has been added to the November roster while Tyler Adams and Sean Zawadzki have withdrawn from camp. Both Adams and Zawadzki withdrew due to injuries suffered in their club matches this past weekend.

Tillman will join up with the USMNT on Monday during training camp this week in Philadelphia.

The 26-year-old Tillman has made one appearance for the USMNT following his change of association to represent the program in 2023. Tillman made the move to LAFC from German side Greuther Furth in 2023 and has proceeded to make 98 league appearances over that time.

He’s scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in MLS play, helping LAFC win the U.S. Open Cup in 2024.

Tillman and LAFC are still involved in the MLS Cup Playoffs this fall, taking on the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference semifinals on Nov. 22.

The USMNT will host Paraguay at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania on Nov. 15 before closing their two-match window on Nov. 18 against Uruguay in Tampa, Florida.

  1. Also excited to see if Miles Robinson can shut down Messi in the playoffs. He has been getting back to his best. His pace and athleticism is a game changer for the USMNT. And was sorely missed at the 2022 WC. His defensive intelligence is much improved and his passing range for Cincinatti has improved too.

    • Robinson is looking more and more like a good fit for Poch’s defense plan. It wouldn’t be a shock if he ends up starting a game or two next summer, depending on the opponent. He was still a work in progress in 2022, but looks closer to a roster lock.

  2. Adams took a heck of a shot in about the third minute, colliding with own teammate. They both looked concussed to me, both down a long time, but only his teammate was subbed off. Tyler played the rest of the half at least, I couldn’t watch the rest of game. Assume it’s concussion related…

  3. This feels like a long time coming. I watched a lot of LA FC football this year and are very much like his play style now. Kind of reminds me of Ilie who used to play a similar role. Mark the most important midfielder, Block passing lanes, receive the ball, dribble a few moments and find the next person to connect to.

Also kind of reminds me of Christian Roldan but much younger, better passing range, better dribbler, and has slightly overall better pace. Not sure he is one of our six best midfielders, but he is certainly informed and playing very competitive football in a very good team.

I wonder how this will all shake out. There certainly seems to be a place for him, but in the midfield trio, I don’t see how he makes the starting lineup and he might not be the best bench option.

      • Ikr Johnny, I was hoping he would make it through. I dont watc Cbus Crew, I heard he plays defense , so I wanted to see how he would look paired as one of the 3 cbs in the new formation.

      • He’s played as the center CB in “our” back three. He’s done well as a replacement to the injured Rudy Camacho but he does struggle against big physical CFs. With his midfielder experience his passing and dribbling is better than most CBs and his athleticism is effective against smaller mobile CF. The Crew leaves him on an island a lot so he has a lot of opportunities to play hero but is also the scapegoat at times. I don’t think he’s really ready to be a regular CB at the international level. Like Arfsten he could put in a shift against regional competition but his deficiencies could be exposed against top 20 competition.

  4. this is just further evidence that Musah is way down the pecking order as a midfielder in the pool, and it looks as if he’s not going to the WC, which would be a serious fall from grace considering his performances in the 2022 WC as an 18y/o

    • Musah first skipped playing this past summer, then made an ill-advised transfer to Atalanta where he cannot get off the bench. Not way to make a good impression.

    • They almost never call a European as a replacement. Especially since Zawadzki was injured on Sunday morning Euro time and Adams Sunday evening. By the time they get evaluated it might even be Tuesday before they can get to the States.

    • Ronnie, I think Poch will give Musah every chance he can to earn a spot regardless if he gets minutes or not with his club team. The WC is still a long ways away in soccer years and I doubt borderline players are going to be picked this early. What I will say is that I think Weston McKennie came into the last camp and showed he is orders of magnitude better than most of the pool and is a lock to make the team if healthy barring some horrible of the field behavior/incident. I don’t think Poch needs to see him again. There are probably about 10 players on the lock list now despite what Poch says. Maybe if I get bored I will try to list who I think is there. Just trying to predict Poch’s thought process; I have no inside knowledge.

    • “further evidence” ?

Musah’s biggest issue is he sucks. And has sucked for a while.

You can talk all you want about skipping the Gold Cup or Roldan and now Tillman coming along but if Musah was tearing it up at Atalanta he’d have been called in.

When Musah was going well there was no reason to talk about those other guys.
Look at Yunus when Pochettino took over and look at Yunus today and you’ll see him trending down.

He’s got more to worry about than making the USMNT.
