U.S. women’s national team captain Lindsey Heaps is coming home this January.
Heaps will join NWSL expansion side Denver Summit FC, the club announced Monday. Heaps will officially make the move to Colorado this June at the expiration of her current contract with French club Lyon.
“I’m incredibly excited to come home to Colorado and join Denver Summit FC,” Heaps said. “This club represents something special, not just for the league, but for this community and for the next generation of players growing up here. I’m fully committed to finishing the season strong with OL Lyonnes, and I can’t wait to begin this next chapter in Denver this summer.”

Born and raised in Golden, Colorado, Heaps returns to her home state after a decorated professional career here and abroad. The 31-year-old has won four French league titles, one UEFA Women’s Champions League title, and one French Cup during her time abroad.
Prior to her move to Lyon, Heaps previously played with Portland Thorns FC, winning the 2017 NWSL Championship, NWSL Shield twice in 2016 and 2021, and the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2021.
Heaps has earned 170 caps for the USWNT to date, winning the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2024 Olympic Gold Medal, and 2020 Olympic Bronze Medal. She has also earned several major individual honors.
Denver Summit will begin its 2026 schedule at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium on March 28.
