Report: Caleb Wiley returns to Chelsea after Watford loan cut short

Caleb Wiley is reportedly on his way back to parent club Chelsea.

Wiley’s season-long loan spell at EFL Championship side Watford has been cut short due to his lingering back injury, the Watford Observer reported. The American wingback/winger rejoined the Hornets in August for the current season, but has been out of action since October 18.

He made five appearances for the club during the 2025-26 season. With Wiley’s return date unknown, Chelsea has recalled the loanee to continue his rehabilitation under their supervision.

Wiley was loaned to Watford last season and registered one assist in 10 EFL Championship appearances.

A former Atlanta United homegrown player, Wiley moved to Chelsea from MLS in Summer of 2024. He made six appearances for sister club Strasbourg in France’s Ligue 1 division.

Prior to his move abroad, Wiley scored six goals in 85 appearances for Atlanta United. He quickly became one of the rising stars within MLS and U.S. Soccer, earning three caps for the U.S. men’s national team to date.
