The six remaining American players in this season’s European competitions learned their fates for March’s Round of 16.
Johnny Cardoso and Chris Richards were among the Americans to advance with their respective clubs this season. Cardoso and Atletico Madrid outlasted Club Brugge in UEFA Champions League action while Richards and Crystal Palace advanced past Bosnian club Zrinjski Mostar in Conference League play.
In addition, Malik Tillman and Bayer Leverkusen also advanced in the UCL while Yunus Musah and Atalanta did the same midweek. Tanner Tessmann and Lyon received a bye during the Europa League playoff round and will now enter in the Round of 16.
Erik Palmer-Brown, who is injured, watched his Panathinaikos’ teammates outlast Viktoria Plzen on penalty kicks after the teams played out a 3-3 aggregate scoreline over two legs and extra time. They also advanced to the Europa League Round of 16.
Eight two-legged series were determined in Switzerland as the competition now prepares for its next stage. The UCL two-legged series will take place during the weeks of March 10-11 and 17-18.
As for the Europa and Conference Leagues, their Round of 16 ties will take place between March 12 and 19.
