Tyler Adams is on the verge of making an early Bournemouth return.
Adams resumed first-team training with the Cherries this week, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Monday in his prematch press conference. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in mid-December against Manchester United.
“Tyler will train today,” Iraola said. “Maybe it’s early for tomorrow [league match vs. Everton], but he’s getting closer.”
Adams was substituted off in the fifth minute of the Cherries’ 4-4 Premier League draw with the Red Devils back on December 15 after suffering an MCL injury in a collision with Matheus Cunha. The 26-year-old had made 15 appearances on the season prior to his injury, scoring two goals and one assist.
His wonder goal against Sunderland on November 29 earned Goal of the Month honors in the Premier League while Adams also scored in a 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Nov. 2.
Despite an injury-plagued first season at Bournemouth, Adams rebounded with a stellar 2024-25 campaign. He made 32 appearances for the club across all competitions, registering three assists.
His return for Tuesday’s trip to Everton seems unlikely, but Adams could rejoin the match day squad on February 21 when Bournemouth visits West Ham United. Should Adams suffer no setbacks over the next few weeks, he could be back in USMNT action in March when Mauricio Pochettino’s squad faces Belgium and Portugal in Atlanta.
