Tyler Adams is on the verge of making an early Bournemouth return.
Adams resumed first-team training with the Cherries this week, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Monday in his prematch press conference. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in mid-December against Manchester United.
“Tyler will train today,” Iraola said. “Maybe it’s early for tomorrow [league match vs. Everton], but he’s getting closer.”
Adams was substituted off in the fifth minute of the Cherries’ 4-4 Premier League draw with the Red Devils back on December 15 after suffering an MCL injury in a collision with Matheus Cunha. The 26-year-old had made 15 appearances on the season prior to his injury, scoring two goals and one assist.
His wonder goal against Sunderland on November 29 earned Goal of the Month honors in the Premier League while Adams also scored in a 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Nov. 2.
Despite an injury-plagued first season at Bournemouth, Adams rebounded with a stellar 2024-25 campaign. He made 32 appearances for the club across all competitions, registering three assists.
His return for Tuesday’s trip to Everton seems unlikely, but Adams could rejoin the match day squad on February 21 when Bournemouth visits West Ham United. Should Adams suffer no setbacks over the next few weeks, he could be back in USMNT action in March when Mauricio Pochettino’s squad faces Belgium and Portugal in Atlanta.

Good! Tyler, CCV, and Gio all need to change something in their routine to protect them and not be so injury prone. I have faith they will be somewhat back and fit for the summer.
Of those 3, CCV had the worst injury and I think is the least likely to recover in time, followed by Gio whose injury is a mystery to me but seems to have a tough time either recovering or getting playing time.
Every WC team faces injury troubles or potential insury issues. It is pretty unpredictable.
yeah, there is no way CCV makes it back to full fitness and shows well enough at his club to be considered for the WC. He wasn’t even playing well for the USMNT when he was healthy, so I just find it hard to see him on the roster!
I’d rather a player like NoahKai Banks get called in for the WC, if nothing more than to get the experience at such a young age, but if he keeps getting starts the rest of the season and continues to improve, he may get the call up on merit and play this summer
From a selfish USMNT perspective, I want Tyler to take it easy so he doesn’t get hurt again during the EPL season and ruin his (and our) best chances in WC 2026.
CCV and Gio being injured are limited IMO to resolving a potentially difficult selection decision, because neither have been a first 11, and probably neither were the next man up. That being said, I do hope both recover well and get back to doing their best. CCV found a home and spot at Celtic over the last few years where he was appreciated for what he did, not torn down for what he wasn’t. Gio – I just hope he finds a place where he can play and stay healthy.
I right there with you in that CCV and Gio both being injured cuts down on a selection headache at their respective positions for the WC, but for Tyler, I think he needs to get back to playing to establish a good enough rhythm so come the WC he hits the ground running, instead of using the WC to find his form
