Chris Richards confirms availability for USMNT-Portugal: “I’m available”

Chris Richards will be back available for the U.S. men’s national team’s final match of March.

Richards confirmed his availability on Monday during a press conference in Marietta, Georgia. The Crystal Palace defender did not dress in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Portugal.

“I’m available,” Richards said ahead of team training on Monday at Atlanta United’s facility.

Richards, 26, was dealing with a knee injury that he suffered in the Eagles’ UEFA Conference League win over AEK Larnaca. He played 76 minutes in the 2-1 extra time victory in Cyprus before being substituted off ahead of extra time.

Richards has made 39 appearances for Oliver Glasner’s squad in all competitions this season.

Richards’ absence led to Tim Ream and Mark McKenzie starting together in Saturday’s match. Auston Trusty was an unused substitute and could be called on to start Tuesday against Portugal.

The USMNT will be seeking a bounce-back result after seeing their five-match unbeaten run snapped in Atlanta.
