Gianluca Busio signs contract extension with Venezia

Gianluca Busio’s impressive season with Venezia has led to the American midfielder extending his stay with the club.

Busio signed a multi-year contract extension with Venezia, the Serie B side announced Wednesday. The former Sporting KC homegrown’s new contract will run through June 2028.

“I’m really happy to have renewed my contract and to be able to continue this journey with Venezia,” Busio said. “I felt welcomed here from the very first day, and wearing these colors has become something truly important to me. This renewal means a lot, and I would like to thank Director Antonelli and the entire club for the trust they continue to place in me.”

“A special thank you also goes to our fans,” he added. “Since the day I arrived, they have always made me feel their support and affection, and for us players that truly makes a difference. I’m happy to continue this journey together with them and to experience many more emotions wearing these colors.”

Busio has remained a consistent performer for Venezia this season as the club pushes towards promotion back to Serie A. He’s scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the club, as Venezia sits top of the league table on 63 points.

The 23-year-old originally made the move abroad in August 2021 and has since featured in the top-two divisions of Italy. Busio has made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and adding eight assists.

After debuting for the U.S. men’s national team in 2021, Busio has earned 17 caps to date for his country.

Venezia are unbeaten in their last five matches and next travels to Sampdoria on Saturday before final March matches against Padova and Monza respectively.
