Manchester United will have it all to do next week in Munich.
Phallon Tullis-Joyce and the Red Devils suffered a 3-2 home first leg loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday. Tullis-Joyce continued her role in Man United’s starting lineup, but was unable to help Marc Skinner’s squad grab a first leg advantage in Manchester.
Pernille Harder propelled Bayern ahead after two minutes, but the hosts would tie things up before halftime thanks to Maya Le Tissier’s 24th-minute penalty kick.
Harder would give Bayern its second leg of the match, this coming with 19 minutes to play. However, Hanna Lundkvist would again equalize for the Red Devils only five minutes later, making it 2-2.
While both teams pressed for a winning goal, it was the German visitors who would deliver one.
Momoko Tanikawa’s go-ahead goal with six minutes to play gave Bayern a 3-2 lead heading into April 1’s second leg from the Allianz Arena.
Tullis-Joyce made one save in the first leg loss, giving Man United their third defeat out of the past five matches.
Before the Red Devils travel to Germany next week, they will host WSL rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
