Tyler Adams sidelined for Bournemouth-Man United showdown after USMNT absence

Tyler Adams did not feature for AFC Bournemouth last weekend and will not be on the field again this weekend.

Adams has been ruled out of the Cherries’ English Premier League showdown with Manchester United on Friday, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Thursday in his pre-match press conference. Adams has been diagnosed with a quadriceps injury, which forced him to miss the Cherries’ goal-less draw at Burnley last Saturday.

“Tyler is not going to be available, as you suppose, because he hasn’t been in the squad for the U.S.,” Iraola said in a club interview.

Adams’ recent injury also ruled him out of the U.S. men’s national team’s March window, with USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino confirming his absence during Tuesday’s press conference. Pochettino also did say that Adams would be sidelined two-to-three weeks per Bournemouth’s injury update which was relayed to him.

The USMNT will face Belgium and Portugal in a pair of international friendlies at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 28 and 31 respectively. These will be the final tune-ups for the squad before Pochettino names his FIFA World Cup roster in May.

Adams missed close to two months earlier this winter after suffering a torn MCL last December. Adams suffered the injury in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford on December 15 before returning to action on February 12.

Adams has scored two goals this season for Bournemouth, including an EPL Goal of the Month award winner against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

He could make his Cherries return as early as April 11 when Bournemouth visits league-leading Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Should Adams not return against the Gunners, Bournemouth will also face Newcastle United and Leeds United to close out April’s schedule.
