The latest FIFA World Rankings didn’t provide too many shocks, although England’s drop from the top 10 saw a surprise nation take their place.
Argentina and Belgium held their spots at the top of the table, while Colombia, Germany and Chile round out the top five. Positions six through nine held true to FIFA’s previous rankings, with Spain, Brazil, Portugal and Uruguay, while Austria has replaced England at the 10th position.
Among the biggest movers was Slovakia, whose recent victory over Germany propelled the UEFA nation up eight spots to 24th. Meanwhile, France cracked the top 20, coming in at No. 17.
Leading the CONCACAF nations is Mexico, who remains 16th, while Costa Rica seven spots behind at No. 23.
The U.S. Men’s National Team fell two spots to 31st in the world, despite three wins in the month of May over Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Bolivia.
Where does your favorite team come in? Which nations deserve to be moved up or down in the latest FIFA rankings?

Where did Beckerman rank?
The ranking is generous. Mid to high thirties is probably a more accurate depiction since the US just got 4th in Gold Cup (beaten by lower ranked Jamaica). Beating Puerto Rico and Bolivia isn’t a badge of honor and can’t do much to move up the rankings.
The only team that moved ahead of us was Slovakia who beat Germany in friendly, better than our win over Ecuador. Last month we were tied with Czech Republic and they moved slightly ahead of us my guess would be some of our better victories from 2012 and 2013 slipped off the books or lost value as they getting farther away from current time, causing our total to slip just enough to be below Czech Republic.
Dang. Whether a group of people or computers or some combination of both….to think that they see 30 other countries that are better than us, that’s shocking. Good thing these rankings are essentially meaningless.
These rankings are meaningless. The problem is fans and how they misinterpret these rankings and try to make them mean what they want them to mean. These aren’t “power rankings” where you use the eye-test or whatever to decide who is best. These rankings equate more to using a batting average or shooting percentage to judge a player during a specific time frame. It is a descent indicator to judge a national teams performance based solely on results. The fans that complain the most are the ones that keep thinking this is supposed to be some sort of opinion based power ranking.
I meant to say that these rankings aren’t meaningless.
its a weighted avg. a trailing indicator… since we played like shit in Gold cup, all fall, etc. that play is still being factored into the weightings.
Probably more our good victories in 2013 and 2014 are now weighted less, those losses shouldn’t hurt us more the more time passes.
Makes zero sense
They rarely do, luckily we have a chance to prove some worth over the next few weeks.
Can’t wait.
They make perfect sense. A mathematical formula always makes sense as long as there wasn’t a math based error committed.
